Mobile Phone Panorama Competition : Results

We are please to announce the results of the first cell (mobile) phone panorama competition. This is possibly the first ever cell phone panorama competition on the web. The judges William Stewart and Birgit Krippner have picked ten of the best shots. The winner from the US has won $154.00 plus a Leica C “E” Light Gold Camera with Panorama Function and Wi-Fi. Thank you to everyone who took part. There were 77 wonderful entries.

The judges said, "In general, despite the small number of entries, we were delighted with the creativity that was shown of many of the entries and very appreciative of the efforts to explore and make something different of what is a new style or genre of panorama. We had challenged (and hoped) the competition would encourage people to explore different subjects and were delighted to see all of the efforts to do so while staying within the restrictions of using a mobile phone camera to do so. So, just fantastic! We both felt there were photos not on the list below that deserved to be there, and look forward to seeing how this genre might grow in the future."

Rapid advances in cell phone camera technology, means that cell phones are becoming the preferred camera of many people. Statistics show that compact camera sales have been declining all over the world, and this must surely be because of the increased use of cell phones for photography. We have started a new competition and we look forward to seeing more of your innovative use of this technology:

It's always interesting reading the comments that the winning photographers leave. You can see that many of the winning photos are made using 300 or 400mm lenses. It does look like a big zoom lens is an important part of the kit for capturing the best bird shots. Mike Atkinson has a great page here with information about what equipment is best.
