  • The winning photograph of this Flower competition shows such beautiful atmosphere and mood. The colours are toned down and the focus is on a little bird, as well as a dying sunflower. This image is beautifully captured, and well executed. Congratulation!

  • My name is Patrice O'Rourke I can't believe I won this competition! I am so grateful to judge Birgit Krippner for this honor. Sunflowers are usually known to be a very 'Happy looking flower' until they start to wilt and the head of the flower tilts downward. On top of this dying flower is a male Goldfinch, state bird of New Jersey. This was taken in my yard in a very urban area. These birds are very small and most New Jerseyans never have even seen one since they dart quickly and blend into the foliage. I wanted to give the feel of the mutualistic relationship between the flower and the bird. The bird eats seeds from the flower, seeds drop to the ground, those seeds will grow into a flower the following year, the bird again eats the seeds from the flower. I used my ZF-200 Lumix. Focal Length 108mm Shutter speed 1/500 Aperture f/ 3.5 ISO 400. Thank you so much! :)

  • A lovely capture of a little flower in the middle of somewhere. The square format works very well here, and the dreamy colours make this photo seem to be taken early in the morning, or maybe in the later afternoon.

  • This exotic flower has an appearance of an underwater plant. How it aims away from the viewer - almost like being caught up in the middle of a wave in a lake. This photo shows beautiful motion and good color.

  • Only one long-stemed-tulip is standing out from the rest, in this field of pink tulips. The out of focus fence in the background adds with texture and definition, and makes the tulips stand out in the foreground.

  • Very well composted, having this sunflower off-centerred to the left in the foreground in this image. The spiky petals of the flower, and the beautiful out-of-focus background compliment each other well.

  • First I would like to thank you for your approval. Really appreciate It ! My name is William and I shot this Sunflower in Italy last summer. I was in a nice place near the French border, between the sea and the mountain in the middle of this field. Nikon D90 was my camera at that time and the lens was a wonderfull Nikon 85 mm 1.8, that I still use. The title is " Primordial Breath ". About the post processing I just turn the image in black And white and put a little bit of contrast, shadows, brightness. My 85 mm here made a really nice job before!

  • This is an unusual and creative way, how to capture flowers. It is hard to tell what are reflections, and what is the actual flower. It seems, that the photo was taken through a water glass maybe?

  • Very original, how this flower bends its pedals. It seems to be a tulip, with not much time left. And exactly because of this element, it makes this photo more interesting and different.

  • I am very pleased with this Mark of Excellence. Flowers are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. This is a tulip almost to the end of its bloom. I find tulips become more visually interesting and beautiful at the end. I used my Nikon D3100, f/5.6, 200, 1/500, 55-200mm zoom. My name is Cindy Viol and I live in Oklahoma City.

  • Very delicate with hardly any contrasts, we can make out a few little white flowers in this image. White on white with a bit of green. A lovely composed photo with a wedding/celebration feel to it.

  • Vivid colours and a blurred background gives this image great definition. A lovely and positive capture - and having a butterfly in it only makes it more vivid, and attractive to look at!
