Wildlife Photo Competition 6 2013 : Judges Critiques : Page

Lovely moment but you have missed the focus.

Well you had everything here to get a really smashing shot, even the steam coming from this great deer’s breathing. Sadly you haven’t managed to compose your picture and you have chopped off his feet. I guess you were overwhelmed by this lucky encounter :-)

I have been trying to find an animal in here, camouflaged somewhere within all those leaves but i haven’t found one. Either it is so well camouflaged that i can’t see it or else you forgot that an animal is necessary for a wildlife photo.

Nice fish although i can’t see it well enough to decide what kind of fish it is. This photo would have been better suited to the bird competition where bird photos are allowed.

This is a beautiful photograph of what i think is a white tailed deer fawn. You are obviously very close and if it is really wild i hope you didn’t touch it. Mother deer leave their fawn whilst they go to eat and nature has cleverly made these fawn have no odour so that predators are unlikely to find them. It is very important not to touch or approach these babies as your human odour will scare the mother off and she will abandon her own baby. The same applies to baby seals which tourists pick up thinking they have been lost and inadvertantly cause them to be abandoned. All wildlife photographers must be careful not to harm or frighten the animals they photograph.

Yet another beautiful eagle for the bird competition.

Well done this is a superb action shot of this white tailed doe. The standard is very high once again this round and unfortunately you just don’t make it through.

A common mistake in this competition, caused no doubt by your autofocus being confused as to what the subject is. You have created a nice wild forest atmosphere but the deer is not sharp and so your photo cannot get beyond the first selection.

Nice try but this is a horse and so i consider it to be a domestic animal. Please read the guidelines.

Lovely red deer stag, looks like a scottish scene. The black and white is nice but your photo lacks a little punch to qualify.
