  • This is simply a beautiful photograph to look at, and on top of the technical qualities, it has a lot of life going on, from all sides, skilfully captured in the right moment and balanced with intelligent framing. This is the winner of the I-SHOT-IT Black and White competition.

  • The tonality and balance of this photograph is extraordinary. It’s peaceful and elegant, yet packed with so much suspense we really didn’t know what leg we should stand on. Very well made!

  • This is a filmic photograph, perhaps even a wedding photo, but most certainly an action photo from someone having a really good time despite all. It’s simply a beautiful picture!

  • Abstract to begin with, but then we start recognizing elements, and we see more while we doubt if it’s palms or animals. The tonality and the layers of discovery in this photograph is breathtaking.

  • Life as it is lived after dark, the sharp focus and strong light on one couple, with a hand sticking up, signaling there is more to this than what the eye sees. And that’s where the viewer must take over and build the rest of the story.

  • The image of a young boy watching an Egyptian mummy where taken at the museum Glyptoteket in Copenhagen. When Egypt became part of the Roman Empire, many Romans moved to the new province. Some of them became so integrated in the Egyptian culture that they had their dead embalmed. They did however not use the traditional Egyptian mummy mask, but had instead their portrait painted in the style of Roman naturalism.

  • Steve Jackson, Cambridge, UK Very early one misty morning, two Cambridge University Porters came to open the gates to the college and I asked if I may take their photo. I explained I would need a long exposure of around 1 minute and if possible to remain as still as possible. One of them did, the other not so much but I quite like the effect. Shot on Ilford Delta 100 film using a Hasselblad 501cm camera. You can see the photo bigger here :-

  • Leica Q. 28mm / F1.7 / 1/60s. Old man, Jakarta. When I see his hands and look into his eyes, I imagine that he's writing about a hard life but one that may have been better than his current situation. His pen has an air of nostalgia about it.

  • Life in the city, Shanghai or Berlin, It’s up too the viewer to figure out the elements. There’s something about this that makes us keep looking.

  • Neither Shanghai or Berlin, though it could certainly be either, this is downtown Toronto. I was initially drawn to the contrasts of the background, both light and dark, as well as natural and man made. I decided to wait for some subjects and did not have to wait long for these two interesting figures to converge in opposing directions. Taken with the camera I had on me at the time.

  • This was shot at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. As you can see it was a bright day and the sun was high in the sky creating this sharp, defined shape of light. I used my Canon 5D Mark III with adjustments to contrast and saturation in Photoshop.
