  • what a splendid image ... very cinematic and definitely dramatic. the shallow depth of field allows the subject to pop. great black-and-white conversion, although i might suggest trying to increase the whites just a little more for some brightness and clarity. the catchlight in this cat's eye and the detail on his whiskers is wonderful. I think one of the most wonderful aspects of this image is the glorious curved line that runs from the tip of his left left ear, down his neck and shoulder and all the way down to his paw. the only thing that would have made that line even stronger would have been to shift your position slightly so that his neck line didn't run along the same line as the roof of the distant building, however, with animals you often don't have but a few mere seconds to compose, so i understand how this may have not been possible. nicely done, and congrats! ~ illona

  • I took this photo in Sept. 2010 in Wales/GB with my Canon 1Ds MII at 105 mm . It was the last light of this rainy day and this cat was sitting on the wall with this typical "British background". I thought by myself "he is the boss of its little kingdom" although it could have bee a queen too. ;) It turned its head and made such beautiful curves of its body I think it was a little bit posing. It is an honor to win the 1st prize. Thanks so much! Ulrich Schön

  • what a great image. the black and white conversion of this image keeps it simple so that our eye is more readily drawn to the cat in center frame. i do find the decorative box in the top right of the frame is a distraction, but obviously unavoidable. wonderful textures and depth of shadow. well done! ~ illona

  • what an interesting image. the black-and-white conversion of this image keeps things simple so that - in spite of the busyness of the scene - our eye is able to go directly to the cat. nicely done. ~ illona

  • This was shot using Leica X (Typ113) and some enhancing was done in LR5. My name is Debby Kwong, and I am an amateur photographer from Hong Kong. This picture was taken in Hong Kong, when I was passing a building on my photo walk on a quite night. This scene made me feel like I can see the other side of a stray cat at night. Thank you very much for the mark of excellence.

  • what a lovely black and white image ... such simplicity, yet wonderful texture and details, and beautiful symmetry. my only suggestion would be to photoshop out the dark object coming in left of frame, as this is the only distraction. but still a wonderful image. nicely done. ~ illona

  • this unique image has a very cinematic feel to it ... like a still from some old black and white movie. the receding line takes our eye immediately to the panther-like cat. nicely done. ~ illona
