  • This is an astonishing shot and a beautiful subject. You have got this pin sharp, the white wolf is bursting out of the photo. The falling snow makes another curtain for wolf to burst through and adds so much to the atmosphere. How did you get this shot ? I love how happy wolf seems, enjoying the race with his friend, and his smile which you have seized just perfectly. Congratulations for this beautiful photograph of such magnificent animals, many wildlife photographers would love to have taken it. This is the first wolf shot to win this competition, well done.

  • Greetings and thank you for choosing my photo as competition winner. My name is John Williams and I captured this image with a Canon 5D II and Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens. The exposure specs were ISO 1250, f3.5 at 1/6400 of a sec shutter speed. I did minimal post processing in Lightroom. I work with these animals in a private refuge sanctuary and nothing is more exciting then racing around in a snow storm with a pack mate.

  • First of all thanks!!! I am totally thrilled. This picture was taken with a Nikon D4 and a 200-400mm lens at f/4.0. The place is a hide located in Snaizeholme in the Yorkshire Dales and is part of a project for saving the Red Squirrel in the Yorkshire Dales. So I am happy that this will contribute even a little to the preservation of this species. The hide and the place is maintained by Simon Phillpotts www.wilddales.co.uk to whom I will extend my thanks and support for this brave and compassionate project.

  • Well you win extra points for keeping your cool and framing this so well. The black and white makes this quite fearsome, the background view adds to that making pretty uncomfortable viewing. This is a clever powerful shot, i suppose this could be called a horror picture.

  • You have placed the blurry foreground very cleverly creating an oblique line which helps join the mother and baby seals’ eyes in a strong bond, the subject of your photo takes on a lot more meaning. Clever work.

  • A fun jig-saw composition for this young giraffe. Your close crop brings a creative, graphic dimension to your photograph, the ox pecker makes it even better.

  • The picture was taken in the Thanda Game Reserve in Kwazulu Natal in South Africa with a Sony a700. This young giraffe was following its mother early in morning at the edge of a thick bush. Very curious, it stopped following its mother and looked at the Land Rover I was sitting in to take pictures of wildlife in the Reserve. I only made very minor post processing changes to the image (a little bit of sharpening and enhancing contrast).

  • This is a lovely image, you have done well composing this so quickly, getting the lines right before the hare dashes off. I love how he is looking at you through one very well placed eye.

  • Great wildlife shots don’t have to be close-ups. Here is a beautiful northern scene of a herd of reindeer in a snowy wilderness. The habitat gives the picture so much sense. Well done.

  • Thank you for the Mark of Excellence. My name is Michael Kraus, living in Germany. The scene was photographed in the middle of Norway with a Canon 7D and the 24-105mm at 35 mm. First I took a lot of pictures with a 500 mm lens, however, with the image statement, I was not satisfied. To show the wide landscape and the habitat of the reindeer I change to wide angle lens.
