Judges Comment

Such an expressive portrait of a worried orang outan wondering through a man-managed forest. Well done you scoop the prize with this superb photograph which leaves us concerned.

Thank you so much for choosing my photo to win this round. My name is Angela Poggioni, I am a passionate nature and wildlife photographer from Florence, Italy, living in New York City. This photo was taken at the Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Orangutans are highly intelligent, peaceful animals and unfortunately critically endangered. Being arboreal apes they need the forest to survive which has been massively destroyed by palm oil plantations. Nikon D750, 24-70mm f/2.8, focal length 55mm,1/350 sec at f/4.0, ISO 2200.
