Judges Comment

It’s clear that the red flowers in this image are fixed but somehow they float up like a murmuration of warbler birds in flight. The composition succeeds because of the repetition of shape of the flowers in the ground (sand bags?) and also in the brick work. Beautiful shot!

Photographers Comment

The installation called 'Wave and Weeping Window' is a part of the astonishing 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' which was created at the Tower of London in 2014. This part was retained for the public and has toured various parts of the UK. Liverpool's St.Georges Hall made a stunning backdrop for the installation but the challenge was to do justice to such a beautiful piece of art in a photograph. I hope I managed to do that. For those interested in such things, I used a Nikon D800 with 24-70 lens at 70mm.
