Food Photo Competition 2013 No 4 : Entry Number 29

Here is a feel of the real. I really have the impression that I’m about to pick up this plate in this café. Clever use of a short depth of field and the waitress in the background make this picture.

I live in Madison, Alabama and consider myself a photographer of culture. And food is most certainly a big part of each people's culture. This picture was taken at a Waffle House in Madison, Alabama with a Sony NEX-5T and the Zeiss Touit 12mm/2.8. I waited until the waitress was in the picture and fired off five or six shots. A few of them show her reaching over to serve the plate to my son - this picture was the best of the series. I was aiming for a shot like this from the beginning, but it was lucky coincidence that my plate arrived first and I had time to arrange it and find the right angle for the camera. The Touit-lens has a phenomenal close-up focusing distance - I purposely bought it for exactly those kind of pictures. I carry my NEX-5T with me whenever I go somewhere - you never know what possibly interesting picture you might encounter.
