  • This image is outstanding and I love it for so many reasons! First of all it is a real touching moment. You captured this scene in the right time. You can't see right into their faces but this picture is filled with emotions. The mother and her child are framed in an extraordinary and dynamic way. The line of the horizon is not a straight line. That is unusual but together with the other elements and lines, in the composition of this picture, it looks harmonious. The soft pink of their swimsuit and the brown and grey tones from the background, all these colors fit together perfectly and the picture looks soft, well executed and.....what can I say? A fabulous photo!! Congratulations to the winner of this child competition!!

  • My name ist Stefan Pütz-Cordes and I'm so happy to win this competition. Thank you very much for your judgement. "You can't see right into their faces but this picture is filled with emotions." That's exactly the same what I felt, when I shot this photo of my wife and our 4 year old daughter. Image was taken on a beach in The Netherlands with a Sony A7R and the FE 2,8/35. And my special thanks to www.romantripler.com, who encouraged me to take part at the I SHOT IT competitions. It's already my second first prize :-)

  • Thank you very much for giving the photo a mark of excellence. My name is Mariano Alvarez. Swedish but living in Uruguay where this photo was taken into a sunset on a wonderful beach. The camera: Fujis first x100 is an absolute gem of a camera and i still use it almost daily. Post in lightroom. Plenty of blacks, contrast, highlights to get the blow out sky. And an obvious strange crop due to loads of other kids close by.

  • Thank you Lisa :D My name is Jacklyn and I am the student photographer for UC Hastings. I was wandering at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, San Francisco, with my good old Canon 600D, when I came across this family preparing for wedding photos. As they got ready for the photo shoot, the kids were really excited and ran around the adults. They were so cute I just started shooting, and this is one of the shots I love!

  • First of all I want to thank you for the award, it really means a lot! The portrait was shot totally spontaneous - this child grew up in front of my camera so she was being completely herself when I took this photo. This was shot on the day when she lost her first tooth, I thought she is going to be sad and instead I got this when I asked to photograph her. She began to smile and couldn't be serious even for a second. This is the point of childhood - you loose your tooth and yet you keep on smiling because you don't care.

  • When I looked at this photo for the first time I stopped and looked at it for quite a long time. She looks at the observer of this picture in a special way. It transfers you right into the scene of this image. It seems that we are almost able to smell the sea...

  • I photographed my daughter in late March this year at Bondi Beach. She wanted to practise her handstands on the sand.I was taking some photographs of the beautiful light on her skin, and wanted just one more and that was her expression, she just wanted to go home(I think she was disappointed with her handstands ).She has been my principle muse and saviour at getting back to photography after a long hiatus child rearing. ISO 100, f12 at 1/60 of a sec.Leica X1 at 5:15 pm.

  • A close-up portrait in black and white of a little girl. It seems to be natural, spontaneous, transfers a melancholic mood and a lot of emotions when you look at this picture. The background is simple but not boring and it supports the composition in a good way. A great photo!

  • A moment that makes me smile. The children do not recognize that someone took a photo of them. The way how they communicate and their facial expression is gorgeous! I would love to know what they were taking about.

  • You captured an intensive moment! He looks straight into the camera, the only one in a mass of children. His look goes straight under your skin. Maybe only a few moment before an important sport event? Well done!

  • Thanks for the recognition. This was taken on Eastman 5222 (developed in Rodinal) with an M6 and 50mm Summilux lens. It was shot right before the start of a large cross-country race. The expression was a very fortunate catch!

  • A frozen moment... A picture that strikes through its colors. The child is out of focus and together with the raindrops on the window it is a creative way to shoot a good and interesting picture.

  • Thanks for the recognition. When I saw my son waiting for me in the car, the atmosphere and color just reminded me one of the Steve McCurry's photo "Beggar Girl, India". I took this photo within a second even I didn't have enough time to focus. Hong Kong; Leica X2

  • Only so much light that is necessary to create a good portrait. A reduction on the essential. Dark and mystical. A very interesting and extraordinary light setup. And also interesting to look at it again and again!

  • After I have just moved into a new house, I have an extra room left, which is now a really small studio. During setting up this studio I thought about how much light I need and my son looked up to the only light source: a simple energy-saving lamp. I shot it ... • A photo that strikes through its great sense of timing. You captured a moment full of joy and agility! I like also the way the curtain moves on the left side of the picture, this emphasize her movement. You have created a good composition and this moment becomes more lively through it.

My 4 years old daughter loved to jump onto this sofa. I took several photos with my Sony A7R and the FE 2,8/35 at ISO 3200 to freeze the action. This was the best one.

  • A quite unusual shot. I like the sense of humor behind it. The way the children interact only with their eyes and facial expression is great and makes me smile. The background is really simple and looks a bit unrealistic but the attention concentrates only of the emotions of the children. Lovely shot!

  • Thank you for recognizing the merits of this image. This was spontaneous scene in a children's tumbling class, led by a wonderful African American teacher who readily gained their attention and trust. Hence, the wonderful contrast of the hands. Had to be titled, "Trust." Perhaps hope. She is helping them to step up onto a balance beam about a foot off the floor for the first time. There's a line of excited children right behind her in the full photograph. But how could I resist the light falling just right on those hands and just enough of her face showing to complete the image. Leica M Monochrom with 50mm Lux lens, both of which made it possible to crop and still keep this level of resolution and tones. I suppose I'm a semi-advanced, enthusiast photographer living in Maryland, hoping to stumble into more opportunities like this one.
