Landscape Photo Competition 2014 No 2 : Judges Critiques : Page

This is a fine example of a photo which needed either a neutral density grad filter to darken the top, or multiple exposures for adjusting it back on the computer.

It does look as though you just fished your camera out of the water, the blurry vignette giving that impression… It is a very high contrast view with very low resolution making lots of pixel problems. I am not sure what the girl is doing to the boy…

There may be a political message here, or perhaps an unwelcome forbidden zone? I don’t know where this is so cannot judge on those values. It is a nice punchy photo though with a powerful barbed wire message.

This is a beautiful sunset shot though you do have quite a lot of flare. Perhaps a shot with the sun a little more hidden behind the clouds would have been easier to manage. The sea and sky are great and those distant figures in the surf really hold the eye. So, beautiful view but shame about that flare. Interestingly the ugliest part in this view is of course the manmade bit. The photo is a good documentary, showing that for the sake of living by the sea on this beautiful spot man has had to damage it pretty severely. So a photo with a story, well done.

I love the beautiful diffused light and the clever composition. The passage through the trees is dwarfed by their tremendous height which you have accentuated with the vertical format. Nice shot, perhaps a touch over dark with a little too much sky peeping though.

What an amazing picture! People do seem so irresponsible and simply mad sometimes in their quest for thrills.. I would love to see the view from that platform too though ☺. It is a shame you have posted this so small, it is difficult to see the detail.

Nice black and white. I guess you have taken this view from the platform in photo n°14, in which case it is definitely worth the risk. I love how the waterfall disappears into the rising spray, the black and white only adds to that clever effect. You have captured the water perfectly, just enough movement to give it all that force while maintaining its ‘frozen’ beauty. Nice work.
