When admiring the magnificence of the Golden Gate Bridge one can’t help but think about the days when it wasn’t there, and how immigration started to build the city and then finally when the bridge was built. This image captures the idea of coming and going to San Francisco, not as a tourist but as someone looking for a place to spread their roots. The emotional quality holds this image together and the apparent ease with which it was taken allows us to focus on something beyond the picture. The viewer is transported to place which he is not sure when or where it is, therefore free to enjoy the image.

Thank you very much for choosing my photograph as the winner. My name is Meliha Eras. I live in Houston and took this photograph when I was visiting San Francisco in May. I took this photo because I was interested in the lady. I could feel her mood as she was looking at Golden Gate Bridge even if I did not see her face. This image was taken with Nikon D 700.. Nikkor 24 mm 2.8. Processed in LIghtroom 4.
