  • Oh my gosh, what an absolutely fun image. It is not only beautifully framed and expertly managed in post to achieve a rich contrast and clean lines, the actual subject of this photo is adorably comical, staring around the corner. Wonderful capture and great handling in post. Congrats!

  • This lovely image is beautifully with the potted plants and stone steps, and the young, incredibly handsome black-smoke tabby with it's golden stare steals the show. Nicely seen and captured.

  • This is an interesting black-and-white image ... with high contrast and deep shadows, the cat really pops from the dark surroundings with its bright eye and white nose. Nicely done.

  • This is an interesting capture as the tortoiseshell cat blends right into its leafy surroundings. I have to imagine that if this image were presented in color, the cat would stand out in the dense green foliage, but presented in black-and-white, the leaves take on the same value as the cat, creating a real camouflage. Nicely done.

  • Thank you for the award. My name is James (Jim) Markus. While going through a rough patch health wise - this feral tortoise shell cat emerged from my collapsed swimming pool among trumpet vines. She became my muse, and it took a long time to befriend her and to stop the constant production of gorgeous kittens. I named her "momma cat". Eventually she choose to become an indoor cat. To be clear; she choose me. I found homes for most of her 6-7 litters of kittens, and adopted/rescued three of them to join us indoors. She has four colors in her fur blond, ginger, gray, and black plus various luminosity's of each. She used this to great effect while hunting, and she was an amazing huntress. Her last liter had one kitten of each color. Camera was the Canon 5D mark II, Lens EF 300mm f4 + the 1.4X TC. Software was Photoshop. My website is very out of date due to renal failure/transplant and then retirement, but here is a sample of my work which I do for pleasure now.

  • The lighting in this image is so simple yet wonderful with the dappled light so perfectly surrounding the subject. Choosing to present this image in black-and-white allows the cat to truly stand out with its incredible markings. Wonderfully seen and perfectly managed in post.

  • Pearl, the rescue kitten, appeared at my front door one morning and adopted me. We took daily morning walks to acquaint her with her new home. Here she sits contemplating her good fortune. Taken with a Leica 10-P and Leica Summilux-M 1:1.4/50. Processed in LR. Thank you for this recognition and kind comments.

  • Cat in a box ... is there anything more 'cat' than this? What a wonderful capture and a great low angle. Nicely done.
