  • This is a wonderfully intimate and brilliant closeup image. The details of the manicured mane and its contrast against the horse's hair, including the brush marks, allow the viewer's eye to travel across the image to take in all of the textures ... and it is almost a though we could reach out and lay our hand on this horse's warm neck and smell its sweet scent. Beautifully captured, framed and managed in post. Congrats! ~ illona

  • This is a lovely image ... and the placement of an unbridled horse in a forest always seems unique. The lighting is perfect and the foreground foliage gives us a sense of actually being on the scene. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • This is an interesting image. With deeper blacks and cleaner whites, there would be more depth to the image, especially with a rather limited depth of field due to the almost singular plane of the image. I personally believe that the horse and action would stand out more with proper blacks and clean whites. The placing of the rearing horse, as well, is a little close to the ivy'ed wall, seeming to give no room for him to comfortably come down ... this adds a level of tension to the viewer's experience, I feel. However, lovely choice of setting, action and horse! ~ illona

  • This image of a lovely horse is made more captivating by the shallow depth of field and the soft, snowy tones. Nicely done. ~ illona

  • This is such a fun image, made almost comical by the fact that these are ponies rather than magnificent stallions. The sweep of the left ponie's mane adds to the action. Lovely capture! ~ illona

  • Thank you so much for this Mark of Excellence. My name is Ulli (Ulrike) Hänelt and I am hobby fotographer from Bavaria in Gemany. My favorites "models" are horses and dogs. A friend of mine breeds miniature shetland ponies (under 87 cm). She owns about 10 stallions and each of them spends his summer among his mares. Just before winter, all stallions were put together and the first two hours of this community are very spectacular to watch. Although these are only very little horses, they fight of course like big ones. I was invited to watch this event and took this picture with my Canon Eos 80d camera and my canon ef 70-200mm lens. The picture was processed with lightroom and photoshop.

  • The action captured in this image, plus the wonderful setting, not to mention this stunning horse, absolutely make this image. The composition and framing is a bit tight, with no space for the horse to run into. But otherwise a lovely image. ~ illona
