  • Here is a vibrant, colourful photograph with several layers of interest. You have seized a random moment, like a page of a story, an instant fixed, maybe you have been a little lucky even, but that is how photography works out sometimes. The bubbles in front of the bubble vendor’s eyes have given him an unsettling expression and at first glance this is quite disturbing but that is where the technique (accidental or not) of this photograph comes in. Focus is on the next layer of people, not on the vendor, our attention goes to the mother holdng the hand of a child who has surely seen the bubble man, then her connection with those men in pink and blue and the busy, colourful background, we are probably near the market of an indian town. We are in the street, passing by, taking it all in. This is an exciting shot with so much to look at, congratulations you win this round!

  • You have used this colourful street artwork to create this very graphic and clever picture of shapes and colours. You have caught this young basketballer superbly in mid air belonging neither to this shape nor to that shape, adding to the very pleasing “trompe-oeuil” effect. It seems almost as if she has just put the ball into space, or is trying to catch it :-) Perhaps another person’s shadow would have added to the street effect. Very nice and thought provoking , well done.

  • Very mysterious, i’m not quite sure what is going on here, he looks secluded, the light is the other way… The composition is lovely, as are the colours and dark tones. Intriguing shot, nicely taken…

  • Well the picture says it all. Add to that the nice square composition of so many leading lines, the very wet ground and the play between the umbrella and the smiley.

  • This is a lovely shot in two parts. The everyday busy street and cars in the background and the quiet and cool foreground in the shade where a man is buying some street delicacy before his very interested family whose eyes are largely on those sweeties! Really nice people behaviour with great colour and shape, well noticed and photographed.

  • This is fun and intriguing. The composition is interesting and keeps us looking while we try to imagine what is going on, and why there was one balloon too many.

  • Although this has a definitely creepy horror movie feel to it this photo has been cleverly taken. Perfect timing makes it work, eveyone has their bit of space. Well spotted !

  • Clever multi exposure where you have used a few people to make many, this allows you to give that important space to the people and their shadows, and the puzzling effect on the buildings.

  • Silhouettes on a bright background, is this Havana? The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the colours and architecture make a nice background… almost there!

  • The Champs Élysée ghost train. The guy lighting his cigarette looks like he just walked off a film set, the woman around the corner looks like a tourist. You have caught the mix of fictional and real pretty well, both for the people and for the architecture of this temporary fair and the distant historical Paris.
