Street Photo Competition 2016 5 : Results

A familiar street scene that is the same everywhere in the world. Builders stop work to admire a beautiful woman. A well-timed photo captures this moment.

This is one of the first photos taken in Cuba during my 2016 trip. I've been one month travelling across the whole island, looking for street scenes, inspired by the work of some big photographers who did great jobs there. My equipment for this photographic journey was a Leica M with 35mm Summicron-M and a Ricoh GR II. This scene took place in La Habana, on the day of my birthday. It's midday, April 16th. I walked in front of the workers, been attracted by their job for a moment, then I saw the woman in white (likely a "santera") approaching. I imagined what would have happen in a few seconds, so I discretely composed the frame in my Leica M and waited for the lady to enter the scene. The expression of the guy taking his sunglasses off is priceless. This is a true gift from photography and I'm so grateful to have been able to see and record it. Alessandro Avenali

My name is Johannes Hillerbrand and I took the photo in my hometown of Regensburg. The man in the picture is well known in Regensburg because of his unique taste in fashion and I am quite happy with the way I could capture his signature fluttering cape on that day. Thank you very much. This quick capture was shot with a Leica SL and the 24-90 SL zoom. The location was Brooklyn by what is known as "DUMBO." I couldn't help but grab this scene that was chock full of subject matter. The piece is called "She Ain't All That" symbolizing the competition among bridesmaids who typically are indistinguishable on wedding day by design so the bride gets the glory. This was shot at a wedding reception, and the wings behind the grumpy-looking man are painted on the wall behind him.
