- What an amazing capture! The depth of shadows and the great highlights allow for these kittens to truly stand out (or rather jump out!) of their landscape. The action captured here is truly fabulous, and the choice to convert to black-and-white allows the subjects to stand out more. I would suggest just a little bit of photoshop work to clone out some of the distracting background like the rod in the distance and whatever is behind the tabby/white cat in the grass, so that the two kittens really pop out of their setting. But wonderfully captured and a great photo! ~ illona

- This image is absolutely stunning. The shallow depth of field and the sharp focus are perfection ... the soft warm tones, and then those piercing blue eyes ... and that lifted paw suggesting motion ... all make this an instant favorite. Fabulous work, and an absolutely stunning subject. ~ illona

- The composition and lines of this image are so compelling, and the choice to convert it to black-and-white no doubt make it even stronger. The tires frame our gorgeous subject, while the vertical lines of the car lead us to him. Focus and depth of field are fabulous, allowing this fluffy subject to truly stand out in this stark landscape. Wonderfully seen, captured and rendered. ~ illona

- This photo is a very story-telling image ... the expression of the cat in the foreground, the movement of the cat by the buckets of floes, the wet street with the pawprints and boot prints: all lead us to wonder what kind of story surrounds this street scene and who is engaging these felines ... whether this is an early morning market or end of the day ... cats waiting for scraps ... whether they are shop cats or strays ... Beautifully seen and rendered in black-and-white. ~ illona

- This is just an utterly fabulous black-and-white study of this tabby's head. Wonderful detail and strong framing draw the viewer's eye back again and again to explore the textures and patterns of hair, whispers and the details in the eye. Beautifully done! ~ illona

- The low angle with which this photo was taken places the viewer right in the photo with this lovely cat lounging on the floor. Expert white balance, great depth of field, and perfect focus on the cat's face. Nicely captured and managed in post. ~ illona

- My name is Tamara Heidenreich and I live in Austria. The picture features my beloved Ava, a fluffy, sometimes strange cat that loves lying on its back. Belly rubs are her favorite things in the world! (besides presenting us dead animals, ugh) A Canon EOS 60D and 50mm 1.8 II was used to capture this image and it was edited in Adobe Photoshop CC. Thank you very much for the Mark of Excellence, I am truly honored! The competition was tough and there were so many lovely entries!

- This image is so sweet and almost ethereal in its light, gentle tones. Beautiful framing, and a lovely contrast of textures from the chipping plaster to the reflecting glass, the dented downspout and finally to the ruffles of fur on the cat. Wonderfully seen and captured. ~ illona
