  • What a truly stunning and unique image, and an instant favorite amongst a truly strong group of submitted images for the Dog Photo Competition. This tiny dog framed by the tall trees, receding into the mist, with his raised paw and half-cocked head engaging the viewer almost inviting them in for the walk, is absolutely precious. A spectacular image -- well captured and wonderfully managed in post. Congrats on a stellar image! ~ illona

  • Thank you so much, Illona! I took the picture in a forest directly located at the baltic sea in Northern Germany. The weather was supposed to be sunny on that day, but instead we got this beautiful dense fog. The picture was taken with my Nikon D300s and the 50mm 1.4 from Sigma. I used Photoshop for the editing.

  • This absolutely stunning image can be no happy accident. The framing of this white dog against the dark ridge to allow it to stand out with such drama amid this stunning landscape and sunset/rise has been expertly conceived and executed in camera and in post. A truly beautiful image. Well done. ~ illona

  • This photo of a little dog skipping along the sunset shoreline is almost the quality of a painting. The deep colors in the storm clouds and the stunning rays of light beaming down add such drama to the image, but our eye always comes back to the adorable little terrier trotting to the water's edge. Beautifully captured and rendered in post. Well done. ~ illona

  • The beautiful soft tones and minimal palette of this image give it a very ethereal quality. The leading line of the dock as well as the ripples in the water take our eye directly to dog, whose stance can be seen as either calm and relaxed or almost ready to jump. A brilliant image and wonderfully handled in post. ~ illona

  • This image is so unique in its perspective. The low angle, taken from behind the chihuahua's guardian suggests a secret moment captured between the photographer and the old dog, unbeknownst to the owner. The rich colors and deep blacks, along with the contrasting textures of cobblestone vs. khakis vs. the dog's hair vs. the shiny vehicle, all make this image a rich canvas for the viewer's eye. Beautifully captured and wonderfully managed in post. Well done. ~ illona

  • The strength in this image is the receding lines and the soft light, and the dog's sleepy expression is fun. Nicely captured and well handled in post. ~ illona

  • What a fabulous image. The almost monochromatic quality and soft tones of the foggy scene add to the mysteriousness of the setting. The framing is strong, and along with the depth of field, allows the subject to truly stand out. Absolutely stunning. ~ illona

  • One can actually feel the cold in this image with the cold tones, and feel the wind in the movement of the dog's frosted fur. The starkness of landscape and tones adds to the frigid quality of this photo and the overall impressiveness. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • My name is Eran and I live just outside Vancouver, BC, Canada. This photo was captured on my Nikon D7200 (24-70mm) this past winter when I was out taking photos for a friend with her dog. I grabbed this shot right at the end of our session, while Molly (the dog) was watching a squirrel climb a tree. She just happened to step into this perfect pool of light and I was able to capture this magical shot!
