  • Congratulations to the photographer of the winning image selected by the jury. This excellently timed capture of the dancers in the square holds the suspense of the implied movement and seems ready to burst into action. The placement of the dancers in the lower center helps support the stillness of their pose which can be juxtaposed with their implicit movement. The distorted buildings and the portion of the audience looking to the side of the frame further add to the building tension of the stillness.

  • Thank you very much for the first place, for the prize and the comment! It’s an honor. My name is Denis Malciu and I live in Bucharest, Romania. The picture was taken in Bucharest, on a street in the old part of the city. I was there with a few friends who share my passion for street photography when we bumped into some sort of an event that involved a tango demonstration. I seized the moment and took several shots that seem representative to me (in terms of atmosphere) of Bucharest, which was referred to as Little Paris during the interwar years. I used my Sony A7 camera with a Sony Sonnar T* 55mm F1.8 ZA lens. I then edited the raw file in Adobe Camera Raw, where I also applied a VSCO filter, for a film-like texture.

  • The dream like quality of this image of a person traversing a tight walk wire with cape blowing in the wind reads both as uplifting and inspiring. The blue tones work to help convey the fantasy or dreamlike quality. It seems to say we can all make our own journeys and cross through the door into the light.

  • We were captivated by this colorful image that seems to be woven together from many different layers but amazingly must be just a single shot. The photographer employed a very creative technique to shoot through the window of the car and nicely avoided a "selfie" in the reflections which add to and complete the composition.

  • Fantastic lines and use of tone can make a compelling image out of even the most banal subjects. This image catches the viewers attention with the converging angles of the fence, and then directs the eye throughout the rest of the frame from the center shadow to buildings on right side and back across through the center along the dark line of the background. Well done!

  • Both technically well rendered and composed, this panoramic city scene leaps off the screen at us with its vivid colors. The sky seems to be handled differently - was it added?

  • Night time images have become increasingly popular and for good reason - the lights of the city are beautiful. We selected this image because the photographer has taken a further step and created a shape from the movement of light that works on its own in the composition.

  • The symmetry and geometry of this well framed photo is appealing and the photographer did a nice job with the composition. If this is a real library, I want to go there!

  • It is a royal library, who wants to see you in Stuttgart (GERMANY). For this photo shoot I used a Ricoh GR (APS-C). I thank the judges for appreciating my work. Greetings Angelo Presenza

  • It's hard to view this image and not wonder what the person in the wheel chair might be thinking and that's one of the reasons that makes this a winning image - it captures the imagination. It's also technically well executed and composed.
