• I shot this while out with my son testing some locations for wedding shoots. We did this just for fun, but ended up recreating something similar with a bride and groom for a wedding I shot a few weeks after. I shot this with my much loved Leica M9-p and a well used 28mm Summicron-M lens. As always, I processed it using Capture One 7 Pro, then finished it off with a small tweak in DxO Labs Film Pack. I'm honoured to have received 1st place.

 • A beautiful picture full of atmosphere! I like the strong vivid colors of the little munches clothing and it looks really harmonious together with the blue tones in the back. The facial expression of the boy in the foreground is quite interesting to me. You create a wonderful picture!

 • Living in Munich, my son and myself made it a kind of tradition to walk around during the construction of the Oktoberfest. We usually take some flashlights and go in the evening. This time we took a friend of my son with us to explore the site. I had real luck with this picture, as I was chasing the boys while they pointed their flashlights into everything. It was taken with my trusty Olympus E-P2 and the Panasonic 20/1.7 at f2.2. Looking at this picture always takes me back to when I was child. Thanks for the Mark of Excellence, I am really thrilled.

 • This is an outstanding poetic picture that tells a story to me. The dark colors and the blurry background gives this picture a special mysterious touch. It could also be a scene from a movie.

 • On the one hand it looks a bit cold and strict but on the other you can look at it for a long time and it becomes touching. The boys show us what is important for them and they are proud to show us how necessary friendship is.

 •
A photo that looks a bit strange and maybe also tough. The grey tones and the high contrast of this picture increased this mood.

You chose a square format which is a quite good framing for this scene and it gives this pic a bit calmness.

This photo captures with high contrasts and it is special and outstanding.

 • Kris Vockler - Vancouver, Washington The subject is my four-year-old son, Alexander, who does everything he can to either not wear shoes or wear sandals. Even in the muck and mud of the Pacific Northwest. Taken with a Sony RX100, 1/250 @ f/2.5, 28mm. Post processing was a simple B&W conversion.

 • Neverland (Anghiari, Italy, 2012): Despite the staged appearance of this photograph, it was not posed. My son, Jasper, was playing with his shadow in the late afternoon sunlight, and I caught him, unaware, from a crosswalk. I liked the dramatic, cinematic backlighting from down the alley, the interplay of shadows and light, and the extreme diagonals in the composition. To me, Jasper's expression epitomizes childhood exuberance, and recalls Peter Pan's exclamation of boyish superiority, "Oh, the cleverness of me!" Thank you to the judge for the kind recognition, and congratulations to the other excellent entries. Trey Meckel [email protected]
