  • Here is a stunning image! A dew drop for each blade of grass, a beautifully uneven row of trees to mark the horizon and just enough cloud to mask the rising sun. The tones are perfectly soft, the composition full of feeling, the atmosphere so very real. This is landscape photography at its best, you have created this image with very little, giving the very little a huge presence and impact. Very well done, a perfect "unbeatable" winner!

  • I am very pleased to win and thank you for the accurate judging. I couldn't find better words to describe what I felt when I shot this magic moment. Driving with my bike (as I do every day to get to work) in April at 6:30 a.m. I was impressed by the beauty of that sunrise!

I used a double exposure and added it with masks in Photoshop to reach the perfect result. Somebody couldn't belief there eyes, when I told them the camera I used was the iPhone 4s, 8 Megapixel! Resolution isn't always the most important thing!

  • A beautiful location, rare light, a rainbow and a faultless photograph. Situations like this don't come often and it takes a cool head and plenty know how to get the composition and exposure just right when the pressure is on. Great photography and nice gentle developing.

  • Shot this one about a month ago around Chamonix with a Nikon FX Body. I was waiting in the rain for about two hours and there was no light coming through the dark deep clouds. I decided to wait in the rain, and out of nothing, there was this outstanding light situation. Many thanx for the Mark of Excellence!

  • I love the soft tones and the panoramic crop. The wave is beautiful and of the kind that get photographers very wet. Well done for getting such a lovely shot under so much pressure. It is a wonderful illustration of man's attempts to harness nature but also a very poetic image in its own right. Depth of field is perhaps a little short but i guess the fast shutter speed needed to freeze the wave is to blame for that. The seafront houses are beautiful and the lamps frame the picture nicely. Perhaps a little more space to the left would have been more pleasing to the eye? Lovely and very close to the mark. More like this please :-)

  • My name is Dominique Guillaume. This photo was taken during an Equinoctial tide in Saint-Malo (Brittany - France). Perfect moment to take a salty and free shower, even the most hardened photographers could be surprise by a sneaky surf/rogue wave. However a great but dangerous show. I used a Canon 550d with a 10-20 sigma 1:4-5.6 lens. Postprocessing was done in Lightroom. You are right, a little more space to the left would have been more pleasing to the eye. Thank you to the I shot it judges for awarding my photo with their mark of excellence ! and for the positive feedback.

  • One of nature's remarkable moments. You have captured the atmosphere perfectly and have planned your shot so well, lightning photographs need foresight. I hope you will comment and explain the technique here, it is interesting to see the still water, which suggests a fast shutter and three lightning strikes - It looks like a long exposure captured the lightning, the first one on the right being brighter, the last one on the left the faintest? In which case there are two photographs... In any case it is a masterly shot with obvious skill and experience. Well done.

  • I shot this at 00.30 in the night, at one of our nice islands in outer Oslo Fjord, Norway. The thunder storm was seen from three different angles, i used a Canon 5D Mark III camera with EF 24-105 mm f/4L lens. The photo is taken at 50mm, 30 seconds shutter speed, f/9 at ISO400, a tripod, and ND16 filter. Without ND-filter the pictures became too light, due to heavy lightning! This is NOT 2 exposures , but 2 different thunder strokes in the same 30-sec shutter. It was an amazing night, and 10 minutes later, we all went into our boats because of the heavy, rainy weather. Thanks for the Mark Of Excellence! Best Regards - Jon Petter Marthinsen, Norway

  • I can imagine sitting here on the ground, looking through this natural window. The textures of the forest floor are remarkable, the exposure and depth of field are spot on. I love the colour and tones. It takes a great eye to see shots like this and considerable talent to transform that into a beautiful exhibition class photograph. Wonderful work.

  • Pin sharp and so peaceful. This photograph is nicely divided into thirds, the top blue and empty third enhancing the detail in the rest. You have given the tree, in its very unlikely position, all the focus it deserves. Well done.

  • Shot this one last year at Lake Wanaka with a nikon dx body. It's a beautiful spot, especially if you got time to create your image. Many thanks to my stunning wife who had the patience to wait with me for the good light. Even though we were on honeymoon...

  • Look at this one for ages, absorb the amazing nightfall colours... seeing is believing ! It is a great shot of a natural dreamscape, where one can only guess or imagine what this remarkable place really is. Lovely. Is this Iceland?

  • You're right, the photo was taken in Iceland, a few minutes after midnight. Although it was the middle of summer, the temperature was so low, that I felt like in the middle of winter. But these are the charms of this beautiful and wild country. Best Regard. Katarzyna Narloch-Liberra

  • This is a lovely tranquil scene, beautifully portrayed with an empty and a busy side. The composition is interesting and the blackless, pushed foreground is effective. It is a shame though that a lighter halo around the trees is still visible - this could have been processed better with a smaller brush and a bigger zoom... nice work all the same :-)

  • Thank you for the Mark of Excellence on my photo. My name is Mike Griffiths and I am from Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania. While visiting beautiful Silver Bay, Minnesota, I was struck by the incredible beauty of Western Lake Superior, and the beauty surrounding it. For this particular photograph I used a Sony DSC-HX200V, and it was taken handheld without a tripod. I tweaked it just a bit in Adobe Photoshop to lighten the shadows. I do, however, disagree with the comment about the halo. As hard as I try I cannot see a halo around anything. Thank you very much for your kind comments and for the Mark of Excellence!
