  • Well, here it is again, and once more nearly making the top spot! Such power here and a beautiful composition with nice movement and contrast. Well done for another selection.

  • Most amusing thanks to this clever and close composition. The photo is well balanced with two distinct halves, the stripes adding to that effect. Well spotted! (or striped) A definite smiler :-)

  • Thank you so much for this honor! This overly enthusiastic zebra greeted us with a big grin while on a wildlife tour in Alvin,Texas. Photo was taken with Canon 5D Mark III and Sigma 150-500mm lens. Lightroom 4 for postprocessing. Edwin B. Soriano.

  • This is a beautiful monochrome, and an unusual subject that I have been back to again and again. The usually untouchable jelly fish has become so beautiful, almost classical in this composition. Well done, this shot went straight into the final selection.

  • This photograph shows us how a hermit crab tolerates human proximity (and importantly the vice versa as well) as it makes its way along the beach. It is a sweet portrait of an amusing species and a lovely documentary. I wonder if those people have a mobile-home too…

  • Thank you very much for your voting and your nice and humorous comments here! (Sorry to have no hare drier!) This image was captured with a 4 MP Canon Digital Ixus 400 at our honeymoon trip at Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Minimal post processing only. It's not an easy life in a shell - always in danger of life and molested by tourists...;-) Christian Bernfeld, Austria

  • A rare moment captured here! Hares can swim but generally prefer not to, unless they are being chased… Well done for being in the right place at the right time for this very unusual shot. Poor hare looks fed-up here, struggling through one of life’s difficult moments of escape for survival. (Hare drier, anyone?)

  • I love the grainy sepia tones which go so well with this cracked-skinned elephant. The shallow depth of field enhances the graphical shapes of the skin and draws the eye all over this photograph. Nice, well done.

  • Thank you so much for the kind comments! I shot this with an Olympus E-PL2 micro 4/3rd's body and 40-150mm lens, then I converted it to black & white with Nik Silver EFX Pro 2. I was inspired by the look of vintage safari posters which led to the decision to go with a slight sepia tone and to add the distressed border to the image. Andy Herbon, Tampa, FL

  • This round’s joker shot and a serious contender thanks to the wild humor. Something that happens to everyone… A black rhino's smoochy kiss on the mouth, through the kitchen window, before coffee. Fantastic! ☺
