  • The winner for me has to be this very adventurous capture! What I like about this is that the car is not a super car, the lighting is both inventive and creative and that the photographer has kept things simple but has put treal thought into trying to create something a little bit different, bravo! This is what photography is all about. A very well deserved first place! Well done again Tim Wallace

  • Thank you! What an honor! This is one of my favourite images I have captured. I had just purchased the car and was camping with family friends. The Fiat is out of its element on a rocky river bank, with nothing but woods behind it, and it is a very photogenic car, so those elements played to my favour. I grabbed my 7D, a tripod, an LED flashlight, and a fellow camper and drove the car further out onto the bar. I set the camera up with a Sigma 10mm-22mm at f4.0 and 30 sec, and went to town!

  • Excellent take on this classic that is both well executed and striking. I love the use of space and the use of tone to keep this image both effective and simple at the same time. A very well deserved 2nd place, well done!

  • My name is Andy Flood and I am a photographer from Kent in the UK. I took this particular shot last year at a classic car show in Kent and it goes by the title: "At Its Peak". I wanted an iconic image, a celebration of 50's American automotive design in its heyday and is also reminiscent of a mountain. I use a Nikon D300 and the following settings for this shot were as follows: ISO 160 f/4.0 1/1600 sec @18mm Post production was done in Photoshop and Lightroom.

  • Technically a difficult shot to carry off, great lighting on the car itself and I can tell looking at this that a huge amount of effort has gone into creating some very nice and controlled lighting on this one. A very well executed capture and a very well deserved 3rd place, Well done!

  • Its clean its simple and for me it works... Great use of colour here and tonality on the rear background to really frame off the car. Clean and well exposed and lit this is a very good example of a potentially simple but good commercial car image. Well done!

  • Great image and one that I spent a few minutes studying as a selected capture for this competition. I love the fact that its looking at the subject in a different way, keeping the scene simple yet inviting the viewer to form their own opinions at the same time. A great image and well executed, well done!

  • Thanks again for another Mark of Excellence for this image. This was taken from an elevated subway line and I had my Nikon D700 and my Nikkor 45mm PC-E lens with me. As my luck would have it, the train that I was riding on came to a brief stop directly above the taxi depot (in Long Island City, NY). This afforded me just enough time to adjust my tilt and focus settings on the PC-E lens (f2.8 with 8* of tilt). I took this shot through the door window of the train. Very little post processing.

  • I love this image, good use of both space but also of the tonality of the scene using those rich tones and colour from the car body itself to really 'pop' this image in a dramatic scene. Very well done!

  • My name is David Queenan and I live in Scotland. This shot was taken on a old slipway at a boat club near Blackness Castle, which you can just see in the background, using a Nikon D200 and Nikkor 17-55mm lens. The image was processed from three bracketed images using Lightroom and Photoshop. I've been a big fan of Tim Wallace's work for many years, so to have this image selected and to hear such positive comments from Tim is fantastic.

  • You have to love a Dodge! , and this is a very good capture that my eye was drawn too. Glad that the photographer had the foresight to shoot this and present it as a mono, I think this works quite well here and I also love the use of the high tone reflection from the ground off the floor, very good eye in this for position and use of light, this is what photography is all about.

  • Hi! My name is Joe Westerberg. I took this photo about a week after I purchased this 2011 Dodge Challenger SE and the morning after I picked it up from it's first detail at the Palm Springs car wash. The black was so rich and glowing I decided to drive it to the outskirts of town (Palm Springs) to get some photos. The Santa Rose Mountains and Mt San Jacinto provided the backdrop. I used my Nikon d80 for the shot and Paint Shop Pro for the B&W effect. Thank you for the Mark of Excellence!

  • A very clean and well executed car detail capture. Lighting detail on cars is indeed quite difficult and this is a very good attempt and a very clean image, nice lighting position and a good use of space and tone. Well done!

  • A very nice capture of this super car, good position and I like the fact that the photographer has given the scene some space and not gone in too close to the main subject, well balanced and over all a strong image. Well done!

  • Great shot and very nice use of space and framing in this image. Shooting cars is always a lot more difficult than people first image and this is a really good capture with good use of lighting, post production work and I love the lower viewpoint to give it all that bit more drama. Well done!

  • This photo taken of an Audi A5 Sportback in Melbourne, Australia in the abandoned train yard near the City was inspired through the work of Tim Wallace. The photographer is Nick Psomiadis and the equipment used was a Nikon D700 and a 14-24mm f/2.8. Ambient light used with multiple exposures for the effect.
