  • This is a Pink-backed Pelican (Pelecanus rufescens); they are native to Africa and southern Arabia, where they are usually found in shallow lakes. This is a very beautiful Pink back who lives in a carefully groomed savanna at Animal Kingdom Lodge, reflecting the romance and beauty of African culture. As an emerging wildlife photographer I someday, hope to afford a visit to Africa to pursue my passion for photographing its' wildlife. Thank you Elizabeth Yureklier DiRosa

      • Christopher William Adach - Leeds, Nikon D700, software used for processing were Photomatix Pro for HDR, Ligthroom 3 for colour correction and sharpening. Post production was very subtle and final look is almost as on place. Weather that day as lovely, not perfect for dramatic pictures but light was soft, blue sky and some clouds, which make the scene nostalgic one.

        • Thank you! This was taken at the Quiver Tree Forest near Keetmanshoop, Namibia. Quiver trees are actually aloes, not real trees. They thrive in the hot, dry climate, growing amongst dolerite boulders. The orange glow is light pollution from Keetmanshoop, which adds to the composition. I'm not happy with the placement of the central quiver tree, however, it makes the picture a bit unbalanced. Panoramic stitch of 6 exposures, each 30sec, f/2.8, ISO 3200. Canon 40D + Tokina 11-16mm.
