Is the EXIF data removed from my photos?
2 February 2015: Yes. EXIF data is stripped from the processed photos. ICC Color Profiles are not removed. We store an unmodified version of the file you upload, but the 'large', 'medium', 'thumbnail', and 'square' version used for displaying on the I SHOT IT website will have the EXIF data removed.
Between 16 October 2014 and 28 January 2015 we were using free software called exiftool. This software removed the EXIF data, but unfortunately it was removing the ICC Color Profiles as well. On 2 Feb 2015 we discovered how to use the exiftool so that it would only remove the EXIF data and not the ICC Color Profiles.
Our reason for wanting to strip the EXIF data is so that the judges or anyone else voting for a photo will not be influenced by information such as the type of camera used, or the location that the photo was taken at, or any other camera setting. Generally this information is not displayed, but stripping the EXIF data would make it impossible to view EXIF information, even if special EXIF viewing tools are used.
