  • this - like many of the Dog Photo Competitions - was a tough one to judge ... there was so many amazing entries, and it is so difficult to choose a 'winner' ... they are all winners! however, this image stood out just a little more in its story-telling quality. like so many other entries, this photo is beautiful executed both in and out of camera, wonderful light, stellar color management ... but there almost seems to be a story here ... a private moment shared between these two dogs that the viewer can only imagine and wish to be a part of in this soft place in the forest. thank you for sharing, and congratulations on a truly beautiful image. ~ illona

  • Dear Ilona I am really pleased that the jury likes this photo. This is one of my first pictures I made and I like this photo very much. It is a snap from a walk with my dog in the forest, the relaxed time after one crazy game. The camera used is CANON rebel 1100D + 50/1,8 lens The final look of the snap is the result of a lot of my getting – backs to it.

  • this lovely little dog beautifully framed in a shallow-depth-of-field path works as a black-and-white conversion, but i'm almost itching to see it as a color ... to see the play of light on the possible color of fall leaves that i suspect are there. because this appears to be a long path/trail, i might have left a little more frame at the bottom to lead the viewer into the image more vs. having such a tight crop at the bottom ... however, the dog is wonderfully framed in the trees and distant light. nicely done. ~ illona

  • the framing, lighting and tones in this image are magical ... the framing of the branches around the spaniel, the soft light and warm tones. i wonder if the post work applied to the light falling down on the dog could be a little less, so that the image has less of a photo-shopped look? the amount of light directly over the dog is a wee bit distracting from the dog. but otherwise a very lovely image. nicely done. ~ illona
