  • A frozen moment and a beautiful portrait. It looks so natural. I like the tousled hair and the beautiful soft colors. The facial expression is somehow sad, the eyes a bit glassy - maybe just a second away from crying. This fact gives this colorful picture a melancholic touch. Congratulations to the winner! A fabulous picture.

  • Thank you so much for this honor. This picture is dedicated to my inspiration, my amazing daughter Isla (2 and 1/2). I took on photography as a way to extend her life, where she will use these pictures to recall a childhood in rich detail where her own memory will fail her. To convey the emotional journey of her life through photography is a challenge that adds true purpose to my own life. I definitely teared up a little when I found this shot in my review. Taken at Mt. Pinos, CA during her first camping trip with daddy. Sony A7 / Zeiss 55mm F1.8.

  • A real cool shot that combines two actions in one picture. The boy is completely in his own world. He enjoys the moment and the sunlight. His dog is full of energy and wants to play with his lead. It is a funny and unexpected combination. And also a great picture that works in black and white very well!

  • I really enjoy to see portraits of children from all over the world. In this case you have created a strong, effective portrait of a young boy, caring for his dog. His facial expression tells a lot.

  • A real cool frozen moment. The colors are gorgeous and of course the well composed scene. The fact that the colored dust is in such a perfect line is incredible. It is actually one of the best Holi-festival pictures I have seen! Great work!

  • I am Kevin Van Sant, a professional jazz guitarist in North Carolina. I've enjoyed taking pictures for a long time but it wasn't until this guy was born that it became a serious hobby. Now I'm his personal paparazzi. It's a bit like what I imagine wildlife photography to be trying to capture a good picture of an always in motion toddler, but I can always tell instantly when I've gotten a good one. I carry around a Sony a6000 mostly with one of several 50+ yr old Russian lenses I own (manual focus only). However this picture was actually taken with my S7 Samsung phone. It excels in outdoor settings and is also waterproof which allowed me to get up close (and wet) for this shot at my son's favorite local fountain. This was my first entry into a photo contest so I've honored and encouraged to have this picture recognized. Thanks!

  • A bit confusing for the first sight. But it is so interesting to look at again and again. The Boys are running after a car. And the one who is the closest is not in focus. But it is dynamic and effective.

  • Thank you so much. I'm honored! My name is Ellen Goodman, I'm a film photographer from St. Louis, MO (USA). This shot is of my daughter. I was shooting to experiment/test exposures and developers. I figured out how I wanted to expose then let go of the technical aspects, wanted to be in the moment with her. I don't remember what was so funny but I do remember the infectious laughter and pushing the cable release when she started laughing so hard. One of those moments you wish you could bottle up, I suppose a photo is the next best thing. Shot on a Hasselblad 500 C/M on Kodak Tri-X film.

  • A lot of young students, close to each other, really concentrated doing their homework. I like the mood in this picture and also the strong colors. An unnoticed capture of an intense moment.

  • Thanks for your comments! My name is Antonio and I am from Macau. I took this picture with Sony A7RII during a trip with Oxfam to Yushu. We travelled for around 10 hours in order to visit the Tibetan students staying in this boarding school. Instead of rushing back to their room after lunch to play with their smartphone or tablet, these kids are finding a suitable space in this small room packed with 8 students so they can take out their book and start studying. Post processed with LR.

  • A strong picture that captivates for many reasons. The perspective is unusual and underlines the mood of this picture. The girl looks straight into the camera. Her expression is intense and this touches deeply. You can see her hands so close. They almost come out of the picture even though they are not in focus. The essential is in focus and that is her face. A moody and fabulous picture!!

  • An outstanding photograph. It could be taken years or even decades ago because of the special blue and green tones. It is really interesting to look at again and again. You need to look carefully until you see the details like the faces of the two boys. I really like it!

  • Taken with Sony A6300 and Zeiss Touit 32mm, processed with Capture 1 Pro. As we were waiting to be seated at a local burger joint, I noticed the nice soft light through the door window and the warm wooden panel in the background. My daughter was restless running around making silly faces in the alley, and I was glad that I caught one of the moments!

  • Thank you. I'm Rhiana Roque and I'm from Los Angeles, California. This spunky little lady is my god daughter. She is a leukemia survivor, and even throughout her long and difficult treatments she never lost her spirit and zest for life. She is now in remission and continues to be an inspiration to those around her, young and old. She is also an absolute charmer in front of any camera!

  • A calm moment with a perfectly arranged composition. She is directly in the center of this image. It looks really harmonious. The tones and the light are beautiful. It seems that she is not aware of the photographer at all. A great picture!

  • The observer. A cool shot in black and white. I like the contrasts in it and the blurry background looks interesting and fits perfectly to the portrait. It looks like a boat in the background, so the photo also tells a story. Really well done!
