  • What an incredibly unique image and setting. The centered framing with this brick tunnel leading to deep shadow so that the dog stands out with his steady stare, is simply stellar. Great choice to convert to black-and-white, and wonderful shadows and whites. An absolutely strong and memorable image. Fabulous! Congratulations. ~ illona

  • At first, I`d like to say thank you for choosing my photo as winner of this contest. My name is Lukas Skalicky and I live in Prague. On this photo is my border collie puppy Raven who looked just great in this tunnel:) Equipment use is Canon 6D and 11-24/4L which allowed this perspective.

  • What a fabulous image. The strength in it is not just the wonderful framing, but the incredible contrast used in the black-and-white conversion so that the little dog stands out from these twisted and gnarled roots. A great pose, and intriguing textures... all work together to make a strong and memorable image. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • What a serene and beautiful image ... and so reminiscent of the fabulous Andrew Wyeth painting Master Bedroom. I honestly didn't think any painting or photo could top it but this photo is glorious. The hint of a snowy landscape (?) beyond the window, and the cool glow it casts on the bed, the soft light elsewhere in the bedroom, the old bed, the textured wall, the shadows, the linens, and this beautiful old basset. Absolutely stellar. Great work. ~ illona

  • My name is Richard Saxon and I live in Lafayette, Colorado which is northwest from Denver. The judges comments were right on the nail head. After touring a wonder Andrew Wyeth exhibit at the Denver Art Museum I became inspired by the work "Master Bedroom" and created this piece called "The Guest Room". The model is our grand dog named Winston, who's a 13 year old, pure-bred basset hound. This image was shot with a Canon EOS 60d with a single light just to the right of the camera. The wall texturing, window and the soft moon light was later added in post. Thank you illona for your kind comments about this image and you appreciation for the finer details of this shot.

  • Absolutely stunning! This is the kind of image that brings the viewer back again and again to see more with each viewing ... the beautiful sky and sunset, the distant lake and forests, the texture of the rock/hills, and this stunning dog standing so proudly as it surveys this epic landscape. Beautifully seen, captured and rendered in post. Well done! ~ illona

  • Thank you very much for this Mark of Excellence. We had a great sunset after a little walk so I had to take the camera for this picture. It was taken in Germany with my Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 16-35mm 2.8.

  • What a glorious image of this sweet puppy in a bed of flowers (I'm presuming heather). The deep shadows and rich purples allow the white pup to truly stand out. Absolutely lovely, and beautifully handled in post. ~ illona

  • What a fabulous image that just exudes dog. Such a simple photo, made more minimal with the choice to convert to black-and-white, and all about the joy of a dog with his stick. Beautifully framed and presented with the deep shadows. Wonderful! ~ illona
