  • The skater’s shadow really completes this picture, giving us another more dynamic and elegant angle to admire, the fingers not quite touching, the girl and her shadow’s skates just separating. That all adds to the clever play and contrast the photographer has created, the figure’s shadow in motion, flowing and free, the structure's graphic shadow all lines, boxes and static. It is a beautifully framed image with several dimensions and an appealing composition. Well done, you win the first I SHOT IT shadows competition!

  • Thanks for the honor! The image was taken in Houston, TX, several years ago. I think I used a Leica CL with a 40 mm lens.

  • This too is a clever and beautiful composition with so many strong lines and shapes, inviting the viewer back again and again to have another look. You have captured that nice feel-good balcony moment that we can all identify with in such a creative way. Well done.

  • I shot this photo in Panama City using a Nikon d7100 and a Nikon 18-200 lens. I liked how the street lamp shadow cast below the man standing on his porch.

  • This is so real, the real home, the real father-daughter relationship, the simple and uncomplicated yet unprepared setting. I love the line from the door, the strong colours, the happiness and homeliness that this image conveys… This was an instant favourite.

  • Very nice use of space and form. This photo gets the imagination going, there are so many possible stories here. I love the game of rectangles and lines, the frame within the frame and the minmal, flat composition.

  • There is so much texture here and a wonderful 3D effect. The shadows contrast so well with the colour of the tables, the squares and circles creating the depth, their repetition almost makes me dizzy. Clever work, well done.

  • A beautiful photograph, the light and shadows beaming out through the trees, holding the figure captive in a marvellous burst of rays. Then we notice another figure in the distance and it becomes all the more intriguing. Stunning, well done!

  • There is something so simple and everyday about this. The shapes of the tree’s chaotic shadow really set off the clear cut shadow of the child. The cobbles and the window bring depth but also create the lines that contrast the unruly shapes of the tree. The child is enjoying the moment…Nice shot.

  • Clever use of high contrast makes this stand out. It is so perfectly clean and clever, the way the light lines up so well with the court, the conflicting angles of the sunlight, the very strong shadows. Great shot for this theme and clever post processing to enhance the white lines. Well done.

  • Great play with the lines and shapes of the bricks, the metal bars in the window, the window frame and the shadows from the staircase. The line of empty bricks at the top finishes the subject nicely. Well spotted and composed, nice colours too. Well done!
