  • My name is Jessup Deane. I took this photo (on my Mark III + 35mm 1.4) in Charleston, South Carolina on my last personal vacation before moving to New York City from Boston. I was visiting my best friend from high school for the first and only time at college before he graduated. On the second day, the friends he had met while living down in SC decided to join us on a trip to the local fountain. It was such a beautiful day, I rode a bike there with one hand, taking photos while riding with the other. At the fountain...I couldn't STOP shooting. The little kids playing in the fountain were hilarious and after 30-40 min or so, I managed to walk away with some fairly epic frames. Definitely a day I will always remember. (P.S.- All my post processing is using Camera RAW and Adobe Photoshop, the original tonal range of this photo allowed me to really push it until I got an effect I felt matched the power/energy of the photos content.

  • First of all, I would like to thank the judge and congratulate the winner and the other finalists. My name is Nelson Arruda and I’m a social anthropologist from Montreal, Canada with a keen interest for visual ethnography and photography. This photo was taken with a Fuji X100 on the archipelago of the Azores on the island of Terceira. It was at a magnificent natural pool in the town of Biscoitos where a bunch of teenage kids were jumping in the water from a little cliff.

  • I am a amateur photographer, north of Boston. The photo captures a moment at a local swim meet. The 5 & 6 year olds are in "the pit" awaiting their turn. When the current swim heat is over, the whistle blows and they shift benches, each time moving closer to the pool. It is a hectic environment: cheering in the background from friends and family, coaches and life guards yelling out last minute advice, and nervous energy as the swimmers move quickly towards their turn. This picture was captured with a Leica monochrom and 50mm Summilux lens.

  • The progression of movement is amazing. The kid flipping on the right makes this. So great, worth getting your lens wet!
