  • this image was an instant fave from the wonderful detail and sharpness standing out in the soft depth of field to the beautiful lines of this cat's body -- the round head, the curve of the chest and the soft arch of the back. beautifully captured and managed in post. congrats! ~ illona

  • I took this photo in a park. It was a rainy day. This feral cat was sitting on a bench. It turned its head and made such beautiful curves of its body. I took two photos and this is one of them. No too much post processing was made besides black n white. It is an honor to win the 1st prize. Thanks!

  • this image is beautifully simple -- made even more simple with the black and white conversion -- yet there is so much going on with it ... the relationship between the two cats, the connection between the viewer and the cat on the chair. very nicely done. ~ illona

  • This photo was taken in a studio session with two of my cats. I had a child size chair set up and immediately the cats were playing and interacting with each other and me. This was taken with a Canon 5D Mark 111 and EF 24-70 2.8 11 lens and converted into black and white. Thank you for the Mark of Excellence award.

  • Thank you. This is the restaurant cat. It´s sitting in the entrance, enjoying the sun (maybe a bit lazy after a pasta meal?). Taken in Amsterdam during a stroll along one of the many canals. Camera: Leica Monochrom. PP in Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro. Bengt Kallenberg, Stockholm, Sweden

  • this striking silhouette image is standout. the strength lies in its simplicity, in the way the frame is even divided between black and white. the only element i might change is to clone out the bottom black edge on the right side , or increase the height of the image and allow that bottom right black edge to be thicker. nicely seen and captured. ~ illona

  • the play of light and dark in this image allow it to stand out; the simplicity of its format draws the viewer's eye right to the cat's tail beyond the window. wonderfully seen and captured. ~ illona

  • this image is simply 100% sweet. the white balance is beautiful. i find the only distracting elements are the four bokeh lights at the top of frame; they pull the viewer's eye away from the subject, making them more aware of the slightly busy background. great capture. ~ illona

  • this wonderful capture stands out because of its shallow depth of field and the focus successfully planted on the black cat crouching in the grasses. the choice to convert this to black and white allows the subject to stand out even more. of course, given the cat's firm focus on the camera, i have to wonder about these eyes, and suspect that the image would be just as successful in color. nicely done. ~ illona

  • Thank you so much for the honour. I took this picture at Ephesus ancient city, Turkey with Leica M9 and Noctilux 50 mm lense. There are a lot of cats live in the site and you can capture any of them anywhere.

  • the beauty in this image is the light and simplicity. the additional story-telling quality of it makes it stand out. the viewer is left to wonder if the cat is waiting for his owner or if it is stalking a bird outside. nicely done. ~ illona

  • I was apartment sitting for a friend in Paris, the flat came with two wonderfully mischievous cats. I had to be vigilant about unattended windows, as one of the cats had fallen into the courtyard the year before. The cats were equally vigilant, always on the look out for adventure, and the promise of an open window. This was shot with my Canon 5D, EF 24-105MM f/4L lens. I am thrilled to receive a "Mark of Excellence", thank you!
