  • what an absolutely beautiful photo. the subtle tones and foggy atmosphere, accentuated by the shallow depth of field, the alert focus of the horse, and the wonderful variety of textures -- from the tall dried grasses to the muddy path, the green grasses, the white horse, and the foggy background -- all present us with a strong and compelling image. very nicely done. congratulations! ~ illona

  • Thank you for choosing my photo as competition winner! I still can't believe it. I'm an Austrian photographer, currently based in Munich, Germany. The photo was taken with my Nikon D600 and the Nikkor 70-200/2,8 during a photosession with this beautiful horse. It was my favourite photo-wheater: cold, wet, foggy and the sun was just about to set. I saw the location and had this picture in my head. Finn was looking at his owner who was jumping up and down behind me to get his attention. There was just little amount of post processing done. I only removed the halter and adjusted the saturation. Again, thanks for the honour and congratulations to all the other winners :)

  • Thanks a lot for this mark of excellence. I´m an animalphotographer based in germany and this is my lovely horse. I had a picture like this in my mind when she was lying next to me.But then she thought it would be a great time for rolling and I took this picture. I like it very much and I´m glad to get this mark of excellence.

  • Thanks for the mark of excellence. My name is Wiebke Haas. I'm an animal photographer from Germany and specialized in studio productions. This picture was taken with a Canon 1Dx. I'm editing my pictures in Lightroom & Photoshop. Though working with animals can be challenging and is subject to surprises, I always strive to get the best result possible in camera. I arrange my light setup carefully and as accurate as possible.

  • what a striking and strong black-and-white conversion ... strong shadows and bold whites. i find the tension created by the top of the withers of the horse in the foreground and the stone/block on the hill a little distracting. i think cloning this one block out so that there is more 'breathing room' around the horse's withers would 'relax' the image somewhat in that area. otherwise, this is a striking image. nicely done. ~ illona
