  • This is such a bold composition, the thin slice of land takes up so little of the frame but is so powerful, countering the amazing sky and cloud formation. The strength of this picture comes from the space you have given to all those tufts of grass in the foreground but also the little white cloud in the top left corner which keeps bouncing the eye back to the distant rainbow which provides the anchor here. This is a fantastic photograph, and the worthy winner of this round. Congratulations!

  • Thanks so much for choosing my image! This image is from an area in southwest New Mexico called the Lordsburg Playas. I thought I was going to get shut out that evening, the clouds didn't seem like they were going to let any light through. I was about to pack up and admit defeat when a hole opened up and let some light trough. The sun was low enough that the light was just skimming the bottom of the clouds. I had ten minutes of the most awesome light I have ever seen in that area! Then a rainbow!!! Get outta here! Shot with my Sony A99 and 16-35 f2.8 lens. Edited in LR and Color Efex Pro. Jay Hemphill

  • I love this minimalist and peaceful wave shot. Your composition is so clever yet so simple. Strong lines, beautiful tones and a wonderful breaking wave full of movement. Fantastic work which i would love to hang on the wall.

  • Congratulations for this beautiful shot. We have seen lots of views of Monument Valley in this competition but never yet from such an original viewpoint. The low light is soft and flattering, the lines on the foreground rock are highlighted by that giving this photo its extra dimension. You have mastered your exposure, keeping the whites within the histogram, then you have sensitively developed the resulting image, adding a clever vignette to hold the viewer’s eye in the picture. This is a great shot of one of this planet’s famous landscapes but you have gone the extra length to make it original. Well done, you were very close.

  • Hello, My name is Patrick McMullen. The location of where I took this photograph is in Monument Valley, Utah near the Arizona border. I used a Canon Mark 2 camera. The post processing is a little vague to me now, but I did do a fair amount of dodging and burning. I added a small vignette to the bottom border using the gradient tool to help lead the viewer into the photo. I hope this helps...Patrick

  • This is technically very difficult to succeed and you have done very well here. The sunset red works really well, balancing the composition nicely. The triangle of beach adds so much and creates a strong lead line to the lightning. Great shot, well done.

  • We see lots of Milky Way shots these days thanks to our ever evolving DSLR cameras but you have really shown off that starry sky with this snowy mountain night view and reflection. Nice work.

  • This is a lovely dark b+w shot and perfect composition where the foreground and distant trees all have their space. I love the misty atmosphere which you have recreated so well and the strong branch silhouettes which fade away with the distance. A firm favourite.

  • Once again simple is beautiful. This is a lovely autumn pastel atmosphere, the two trees really setting each other off, the lying mist so delicate. Wonderful photo, well done.

  • Thank you! I am very happy about your comment and to see my picture being selected as one of the top photos in this competition. My name is Andreas Lentfer and I am living in Germany. Although it might look like a picture taken in autumn, it was actually taken in April (that beech tree kept it's leaves through the winter). On that morning, I took my full-frame DSLR a few kilometres south of Munich and found this quiet spot. Post processing (Brightness, contrast, white balance, saturation) was done with Nik Software.

  • It is very difficult to create a minimalist view like this and it takes a trained eye to compose one so perfectly. The b+w works well, the dark background giving the cloud all the place it deserves. Lovely texture, light and shadow on the sea keep us looking. You have made an image of so much with so little…

  • Cristal clear and highly contrasted with all the tones from dark to light perfectly exposed. This is a strong composition and a bold view into the sun. The foreground stones complete this and show us just how important foreground detail can be. A great photo is not just a nice view, well done.

  • Thank you for selecting my photo! I am a semi-professional fine-art photographer and have been shooting for over 40 years. I took this photo of a stand of Cypress behind a field of tall grass, at Grassy Waters Preserve in Palm Beach County, FL. I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM on a tripod. 200mm, ISO 100 1/160/sec f/5.6. Using the long focal length compressed the foreground and background resulting in this interesting, flattened perspective.
