  • Congrats to the winner!! I really like everything that makes this picture so unique in my eyes. You have chosen a different perspective that work really well with this motive. The blue is so powerful in this image and a great contrast to the grey of the floor and also the color of her hair. The colors are shining! It is hard to say if this scene is staged or not but it really works and this is what lastly counts in the end.

  • I’m happy an honored to be the winner of this competition! In fact the picture is not staged. My daughter was playing alone on the street and explored to mix her new crayons with water. When i came back i found her in this situation. Luckily i could directly take this colourful and contrasty shot with a Canon EOS 20D, Tamron 17-50/2,8, ISO 200, 1/125, f8. Thank you! • I guess it is really hard to shoot a picture like this. Timing is everything. And it might also a bit dangerous for your lens of your camera. Except you cropped it in the right way ;) The yo-yo just comes out of this picture. It works so perfectly together with the boy in the background. Fabulous!!

  • David Scarbrough - Houston, TX USA, Olympus E-PL1, Olympus 9-18mm. This is my son with his new yoyo that he got for Christmas a few years ago, For the processing, I masked off the yoyo to blur the background a bit more that was originally shot to add emphasis to the yoyo and give more of a 3d effect. Other than that, some levels and saturation adjustments. Thanks to the judges for the Mark of Excellence!

  • This image really look like a movie still. What happened here? What are they looking at? A thunderstorm? A Hurricane? Or maybe something completely different? I would really love to know it. It caught my interest. The fact that this picture is not in focus makes it even more lively and exciting. Also the dark colors. I really like it!!

  • Hello and thank you so much for selecting this photograph! This image was shot in Monterey California using a Leica M6 and a Summicron 50mm lens on Kodak's Portra 400 film, no post processing. The kids were watching a great horned owl take flight just off our hotel balcony at twilight, a beautiful and frightening moment to see so much power so close! Best regards, Lenore Thierry in San Francisco.

  • A great image! I love the red traffic lights that work so perfectly together with the bow in her hair. What a great idea or perfect snapshot! the light setting is perfect and her facial expression puts a smile on my face! Love it!

  • The red lights were actually motion capture cameras for a digital children's show that was being shot at the Jim Henson studio. Clearly it was making her day to visit set! :)

  • Thank you for the award. My name is James Markus and I am a professional photographer in West Michigan. Your comments are similar to my own sentiments about this photo, and how composition and light make it work for me. The photo was taken on a sun drenched deck using a Nikon D2X with a 70-200 AFS lens. My web site is linked below.

  • Only children are able to look in such a touching way like this. You have chosen a sepia filter for it. So gets a timeless touch. Could be a quite new portrait or some decades ago. Well done!

  • Summertime ...... and the living is easy. This is an unusual picture with an interesting perspective and composition for a really famous topic "children and at the beach". For me it shows pure calmness and enjoyment. The focus is on its hair. Even that is unusual but altogether is works so well! Love it!!

  • Thank you very much. I took this photo of my son a few years ago on the beach in Florida. He looked so comfortable in the "moat" next to his sand castle - I did have to ask him to be still for a moment, he was never in one place for very long. Shot with a Canon Rebel 2000 using Kodak T-Max 100. Thank you again! Tina Orlando

  • A photo that is sad and interesting at the same time. Everyone who has a look at it hopes that the little boy only plays hide and seek. Good light composition and most of all touching!

  • Her attitude is great. The facial expression captures the observer. I like the soft colors of autumn that go very well with the color of her hair. A great shot!

  • It was the end of a few hours of shooting and she was spent. I looked for her and found her cowering behind a try. I called her name and this was the look I got back. It was perfect in every way. Thank you for the recognition. f5.6, shutter 1/130, ISO100

  • Thank you very much. This images was taken in Guatemala with a Medical Mission. I go with the group every year. We go to different villages each time. We treat for what we can there and screen for those that need surgeries and interventions that are life changing. The kids are wonderful and happy. No fancy toys, just good old fashioned play. This girl was playing with her friends, taking turns jumping rope. This was shot with my Canon 5D Mark II and canon 85mm f/1.2 II lens.

  • Does this little girl wants to eat this bubble? Or maybe just a short time before she needs to sneeze? Maybe she wants to burst it with her teeth. However it caught my interest. A good light setting and caught in the right time!

  • Thomas Tepstad Berge: This photo was taken in the vicinity of the city of Bergen, Norway. It shows my 2 year old daughter chasing the soap bubbles which she enjoys to a great extent. Camera used for this photo was Canon EOS 600D with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Lens. The post processing performed was desaturation and increased sharpness of the bubble itself. I also reduced the clarity of the already faded background.

  • A quite good shot! You cropped it in a good way. I like the reduction. Everything, that is necessary to tell a story, is on this photo, not to much. A simple background that does not divert from the essential.

  • Thank you for the mark of excellence! This photo was taken in Gdansk, Poland while visiting on holiday last month. The little girl certainly did not seem happy to be there, I could really feel that she was there because her violinist father who was playing with her decided it would be so. She certainly attracted attention, which undoubtedly pleased her dad, but she seemed rather unhappy. The photo was taken with a Nikon D610 and a Nikkor 24-70 f2.8...
