  • This is a great grizzly action shot with a lovely and vast wild background, i suppose Alaska. Your vertical composition crops down nicely to give the bears their deserved size whilst drawing our attention to this wild and natural scene. Wonderful shot and this round’s winner. Congratulations!

  • Thank you for the winning vote and you are right about Alaska. I shot this with a Canon 40D in Hallo Bay, which is a part of Katmai National Park in Alaska. My guide spotted some bears from the air, so we landed on the beach a couple hundred yards away. We walked up fairly close to where some bears were and then these two came out into the open in front of the mountains and glacier, from opposite sides, grunting and yelling at each other like they were long lost friends. I got very lucky with the light and the whole situation. They played with each other for 20-30 minutes before going back to fishing for salmon. Possibly the funnest 30 minutes of my life.:)

  • This came pretty close. I love the interaction between tiger and the deer who have accidentally stumbled upon their fiercest predator. The short depth of field is so effective, bringing all attention to tiger as i can imagine was really the case for all, and the colours and diffused tones take us into the jungle. Great wildlife shot, it took a grizzly competitor to put you in second place.

  • Congrats to the winner! Welll done. Thanks to the judges for their consideration. It was a once in a lifetime moment at Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Karnataka, India. This was shot in July 2014 during the monsoons. The lush green grassland adds a punch to the scene. This was shot with a canon 700d and. Canon 300mm f2.8 l is II lens and Kenko 2x pro 300 converter. This was shot as jpeg. In post processing the white balance and tones were adjusted slightly. Thanks again. Ram DORAISWAMY, from Bangalore, India, currently residing in The Hague, The Netherlands.

  • This is a beautiful composition, with a still-life landscape quality. The seals look so content, the lighter one begging for his tummy to be stroked. Your black and white tones are beautiful as is the space within your composition. Nice.

  • Thank you for this Mark of Excellence. This shot is one of my favorite from a trip to Big Sur, CA this past June. We were high on a bluff in Point Lobos State Reserve, looking down on a small group of harbor seals. The darker one in the photo was in the water playing and after a bit waddled his way up onto the shore and looked right up at us. He was as curious about us as we were about him. The lighter seal seemed to recognize that the darker one was looking at something and came over to see what was going on. They both stayed captivated by us for quite a while and struck these adorable poses for us! Shot with my Nikon D700 and Nikkor 70-200/F2.8 lens at 200 mm, F4.5, 1/2000 sec. Conversion to B&W in Silver Efex Pro. Kimberly Herold, Navarre, FL

  • A very bold two tone shot making a striking silhouette of this chamois. You did well getting the photo in the first place but your processing is equally adventurous.

  • Thank you once again for a Mark of Excellence. My name is Stefan Betz and I am from Germany. This shot was taken in the Vogese Mountains in France. After shooting a group of chamois on a long distance, I heard a noise in my back. When I turned around, this female chamois was standing on a rock overhead of my against a bright sky - a perfect chance for a shilouette. Shot taken with a Canon 1DX and a EF 400mm 2.8

  • Nice macro shot of this furry spider and an interesting HDR effect though that does take him out of the real world.
