  • This is a beautifully composed photograph where you have succeeded in keeping the real forest atmosphere intact. Your sharp focus on the leafy foreground and the wide depth of field lead the eye throughout, from the detail of the forest floor through the emptyness of the misty distance. I love the bright highlights and the hopeful spirit of this springtime view. Well done, this round’s worthy winner.

  • Wow! Thank you very much for the first prize. My name is Tobias Ryser and and I am a nature and landscape photographer from Switzerland. This picture was taken after a disappointment for me: The plan was to capture the moonset over a beautiful landscape spot in the morning hours but because of the mist, I had to change my plans and found this spot inside the forest nearby. I guess this shows, that it's always possible to capture good images, even if there is some disappointment in the beginning.

  • Here is a striking scene from some far flung treeless latitude. The colours are lovely and warm for such a cold place and you have helped those with the orange sea-weed in the foreground. Low light photography can create magnificent low contrast images, you have managed very well here. great shot, congratulations.

  • A difficult one to pull off but this moonlight seascape has all the drama of a real night out on the shore, a night time photograph which looks like night time. Great technical skill and experience here, well done.

  • Nearly clinched it! The mood is wonderful and your composition too. The lines and colours make a great graphic image, your technique is fine, except for the oddly placed ND filter which spoils the sky... Keep these coming !

  • Thank you very much to Duncan MacArthur for selecting my photograph and for his comments. This is a location, on the North Shore of Martha's Vineyard, to which I return often. The New England light always offers a different mood and it's interesting to see the same subject in a variety of conditions. Shot with an Olympus OM-D E-M5, the Leica/Lumix 25mm lens, and a B+W 3-stop ungraduated nd filter.

  • Another beautiful shot and another mark of excellence for this lonesome pine, this time in winter. Well done, it is a good thing to return over and again to a familiar subject, you have the recipe for a winner here….

  • Thanks! This picture was taken this springtime at one of my most visited spots just where I live. Thanks to the mist, I was able to capture this backlight situation against the sun.

  • This is a lovely b+w interpretation giving the leaning tree all the presence it needs. The slightly imperfect reflection brings a dreamlike mood to the scene. Nice peaceful photograph, well done.

  • Quite stunning all this springtime fruit blossom. You have captured a lovely fresh scene, the road meandering through the landscape adds to the gently undulating mood here. Could you possibly organise a higher viewpoint for next year? That would give those trees a little more space with more grass between them and more play with the shadows. I feel it is just a little chaotic and could be even better.

  • You are absolutely right! I wish I would have been able to manage a higher viewing point. But unfortunately I was already at the very highest point on the hill and had to cut the frame like that.

  • This is a simple minimalist image and a nice example of simple is best. I like the contrasting sun and shade which add to the strong shapes in this photograph. Well spotted, studied and executed. :-)

  • These are maybe deer tracks but in any case they really bring home the isolation of this place, leading us off into the snowy wilderness. Well done, this photo is a lovely landscape with that little extra wild atmosphere.
