  • You have captured all the colour and taste of these spices, the green of the fresh curry leaves and green cardamoms bring that little extra colour and contrast. The karahi pan is the perfect setting for this wonderful masala. Nice focus and composition too. Well done you have won this round!

  • Well this is indeed very tasty. It is a beautiful shot, the black background setting off the colours and texture of this perfectly sharp image. Well done.

  • Well done, you have taken this egg and spoon a little further than usual creating a quite striking and graphical photograph. The black and white is very fitting. It was a close call…

  • Thanks for the jury:-) !!! Second mark in a month! I'm a lucky one. On a rainy day in Norway. Window light, D700 and 105 mm. Still life/ food are actually more tricky than everyday scene: too much or too little and your picture is crap. So I was pleased with that one:-)

  • This is most original. Tomato toasties on a stone by the fire. Your composition and focus are great, making us want to pick up one of those toasts. I love the balsamic vinegar stains on the stone and the plateless serving suggestion.

  • My name is Aaron Bieleck, and I live in Portland OR. This photo was taken on a backpacking trip into the Willamette National Forest. My girlfriend had the great idea to make back country bruschetta. While I cut wood and built the fire, she did the food prep. Fire toasted bread using tree branches, melted mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar. It made for a mouth watering snack, after hiking 5 miles up an over a 2000 ft. ridge and setting up camp. Paired with some wine, this treat was definitely worth the extra weight in our packs. Image with my Fuji X100 and its fixed 23mm lens.

  • This is a lovely dark toned composition with stunning detail and nice soft light. I am not sure what the powder is but it fills the bottom corner nicely :-)

  • This photo was taken in studio with a Canon 7D and a 50mm Macro lens. The image was post processed in photoshop. The powder in the corner is brown sugar. Thank you for the mark of excellence!

  • It is your clever use of a short depth of field which makes this macaroon jump out of the picture. Lovely work, well done.

  • This is a real life steet scene that we all know, a view through the spare ribs where the cook is busy preparing dinner… Nice, well spotted opportunity and cleverly framed shot with the real feel of real food.

  • Here is a bold composition where you have cleverly cropped the pizza (? or pie) in half, leaving room for the garlic, chilli and herbs. The lines between the wood add a lot to this too. It is a very appetizing picture the where the missing half of the pizza is really present.

  • I took this shot after my daughter made this lovely Rustic Tomato Tart for dinner one evening. I used my Nikon D3100 with no real post processing other than to tweak the lighting just a bit. Thank you for the Mark of Excellence.

  • I see the same spices as in the winning photo so suspect this is by the same photographer…. It is a beautifully composed and constructed shot, this time with a nice old Indian tiffin.
