  • <p>The jury unanimously selected this image as the winner for it’s beautiful painterly quality, and superb composition. The framing and lines within the image all draw attention toward the subject but also give the viewer a path to move his or her eyes around the rest of the image. Colors in the image work together in harmony with the composition and the quality of light is just wonderful. Well executed! Additionally we felt this image epitomized city life.</p><p>One juror said, “This is the kind of image that made me move from the suburbs to the city."</p>

  • We were captivated by this image that seems to tell a story about its subjects in a lyrical way speaking quietly with it’s soft moonlight. On first blush the viewer is taken by a the sensual feeling of beauty of the whole frame, but this feeling transfers to one of wonder as the focus is drawn in to the subjects. In a gentle way it gives us a vignette of what other lives in other locations might be like. Congratulations to the photographer for a well composed and captured image.

  • This image perfectly illustrates how sometimes fewer elements can make an image stronger. Here the photographer has put together a very compelling image with just a few shapes and lines - but perfectly arranged. Silhouetted against the sky, the people add a sense of scale and humanity to the image without distracting. Great image!

  • Some images have a way of stepping higher than the scene literally rendered, and this urban landscape does just that. The literal image shows a dirty, crowded and even some what broken gut of a city, however it doesn’t read that way at all. Instead the image reads very pleasantly as an abstract view, energetic and fertile with happy spots of color and even repeating shapes of the buildings.

  • We love images that make us smile! Fantastic capture and great idea to take the back side of the Buddha with the happy face smiling down on it and us. Composition works well divided into quarters like this with the shadow of the sculpture repeating again down low to bring that part of the frame into play and the empty sky serves as a respite. Excellent!

  • This is in Seoul, beside Namdaemun Market. I waited until sunset for the shadow on the wall to appear. The foto was taken with panasonic lc1 and edited in photogene.

  • Sparkling like a jewel, this is an eye grabbing image. We appreciated the effort that went into capturing the image and enjoyed the rendering of light and color which are difficult to handle on night shots, as well as the work done to keep foreground and background elements sharp all of which contribute to a winning image.

  • We imagined this image could be a still from a movie scene where the protagonist spirals down from good to bad - okay maybe that’s not what’s really happening, but the man walking through a channel of light into the dark makes for an interesting image and builds intrigue.

  • In the course of jurying the I-Shot-it City competition, we see a large number of excellent urban landscape shots and its unfortunate that we can’t award more of them. We felt that this image really stood above in its excellently selected and composed group of buildings as well of its polished clean and straight lines and post processing. This image really sings!

  • In some sense this image represents an outlier in the group, but it stood out in a good way. This image captured a slice of time the fully embodies the sensibility and activity of city life. It does so in an engaging way that allows the viewer to share in that moment to feel like we were there. The man seems recognizable to all, but we can’t place him. Do you know him? Even though this seems to be a snapshot, the spacing of the people and movement of the people works well compositionally. Great timing!
