  • everything about this image is pure perfection ... obviously the play of light and shadow, but the curve of the tail, the lift of the front leg, right down to the texture of the wooden door and the line of light slipping underneath it. absolutely beautifully done. an instant favorite and a undeniably memorable image. ~ illona

  • My Name is Dana P. Hale. I live in Sylacauga, Alabama. I shoot with a Nikon D5100. One day as I walk through the yard with my cats, one of them (smokey) jumped into this dead pear tree. She stayed there long enough for me to shoot this photo. No editing was needed for this photo. This is exactly how it came out, and I couldn't be happier. I thank you all for the achievement and it means so much to me! Thank you all so much and I look forward to entering many many more! Thank you!

  • I'm honored that this black and white treatment of my cat Snickers surveying his surroundings from a dogwood tree branch won third prize in this competition! This photo was taken in my yard in Virginia using a Pentax K-r and Pentax DA L 55-300 lens. I shoot RAW and used Lightroom to convert the shot to black and white. Thank you very much for your kind words about the shot! -Lori Coleman

  • for a straight-forward, looking-up portrait, this image stands out from others because of its great control of depth of field but also the beautiful use of color -- using complimentary colors of orange and green. just super. well done! ~ illona

  • One of the first photographs I took after purchasing my first 50mm 1.8 lens. This kitty, Mikko, passed away in July 2009. Was a good kitty then by being an amazing model, always posing and looking straight up at the camera, and has just proved that he still is, by earning me $150!!! haha Thanks guys!

  • Thank you for your review and lovely commentary of my work! This photograph is of Chloe, who we rescued as a kitten after she had suffered terrible abuse. I have always felt this photo conveys her story and personality. This was taken at home with my Nikon D80, Nikkor VR 18-200 lens at 18mm, F4.5, 1/1000. Converted to black and white in Nikon Capture NX 2. Kimberly Herold, Navarre, FL. :)
