Landscape Photo Competition 2013 No 5 : Judges Critiques

You have certainly caught the light here! Your photography is on the verge of breaking through to the last 10, just mind not to over do contrast and blacks.

This is a breathtaking and very complicated photograph. I suspect you have made two (or several) exposures to get this magnificent Milky Way result. Your composition is beautiful and all tones have been respected. I tip my hat to you, just brilliant.

This is a beautiful shot with strong shapes and lines, the pools of sunlight bringing plenty drama. Well done.

Stunning light and a nice telephoto view which accentuates the relationship between these different rock types. The stormy sky is beautiful but i would say that you have framed a little too much of it. The little blue hole at the top should have been left out, bringing the top edge lower, towards the lighter cloud with a lovely top edge.

I love the movement here and the way you have made this cereal crop dance. The black and white finish is perfect, the composition a real pleasure to admire over and over. Well done.

Why not? Very original approach and well done. Good digital skills have helped you make an interesting landscape for looking at through this child’s eyes. Nice work but although it is not off subject it would be lucky to win this competition in the face of the other stunning landscapes.

This is stunning work, both on the ground and in the lab. Your selective colour and strong leading lines make a very powerful image. I think this is Skye bridge? This is winning material but i’m afraid nature just isn’t the subject enough for this theme.

Love is… Well spotted and fun photograph.

A lovely shot of this snow scene. Your composition is superb, the stones then the yellow larch trees leading us into the cold snowscape. The very long exposure has worked wonders to the sky, making the ground that much sharper too. Nice use of your neutral density filters has allowed you to get all tones perfectly exposed. Love this.

Sea, sun, sand, surf, seals… Great timing for the background wave makes this quite beautiful. Nice wildlife shot too.
