  • Something I personally have been enjoying as a judge for the Child competition, is being exposed to kids from all around the world. Different cultures to where I come from and where I live, insight into peoples' life from other parts of this world. This is a great example for this. Loving the post-production of this photo. Great expression, beautifully framed, and warm colours make this an image we enjoy coming back to look at it again and again.

  • Thank you for this overwhelming surprise and comment! Now that I was lucky to win with a boyhood motif for the second time, I'm starting to worry as a childless forty-something.*smile* The frame was created spontaneously in Sumba Barat, one of the last Indonesian destinations that could be visited after the outbreak of the pandemic and shows a Sumbanese junior in front of his Marapu-house. Next to Tana Toraja, Sumba is the second of the unique megalithic cultures of the South Pacific area. The fact that the boy opened his arms in the shape of the water buffalo horn was a happy coincidence. Taken with Sony FF, 24mm GM @ f/2.8, added warm contrast in post. I thank the jury from the bottom of my heart and would like to express my kind respect to everyone who has been honored here. Thank you also for another "Mark Of Excellence". All the best from Germany, Wolfgang Weinhardt

  • A moment frozen in time .. This young lady is somewhere else with her thoughts, deeply detached from eating her meal. A narrow depth of field makes us focus on her mesmerizing eyes, on what’s important in this photograph.

  • Thank you for the wonderful comments and the honor of being included. This lovely little creature is one of a set of twins attending a social affair. It was, indeed her eyes, a kind of mindfulness that captured me. Taken with a Leica M10-P and Summilux-M 1:1.4/50 ASPH Shot wide open and edited in LR.

  • This could be generations - maybe a mother with her daughter, or maybe just women being close to each other. Well framed, beautifully executed and with colours being desaturated - it all lines up to a stunning capture.

  • Sensitively captured and a touch of humor, we love this photo! Only one arm poking out from the basket gives away, that we are dealing with a very young person here. The exposure is perfect, and shooting against a window was skillfully mastered by the photographer.

  • A feeling of going on summer holidays, being transported into our own childhood, overcomes when seeing this lovely image. That small caravan is fantastic, and makes this photo tell its own story, without a lot of words needed.

  • Beautiful and priceless this is, a young boy enjoying waves coming over him. And holding a ball adds curiosity in the observer. That happy smile makes us smile as well. Thank you for submitting such a charismatic environmental portrait.

  • A simple silhouette is all needed, to make out that we have a child here and an adult, in an aquarium situation. The silence in the capture adds to the feeling of slowly moving fish. Very well seen and captured.

  • This could be a photo from the past, how the colours refer to a different time. Alternatively it is filters applied, which give us that impression. Regardless, it is a lovely moment captured.

  • Quite a different time. This shot was taken about 25 years ago in France. Thank you - Birgid Unger, Germany

  • Becoming one .. that what comes to mind observing this photo. It is beautifully executed, B&W works well for this image. How that little hand holds the arm of the loving adult, that says so much. Great expression!

  • Photographing from below, what great perspective this is. We see an angle and an expression in this young person which is priceless.
