  • This image simply vibrates with all the layers of pattern, line, and texture that combines together to work as one cohesive whole. This allows the composition to be reduced to two basic elements, the man in the shirt and the background, and yet all the activity of the pattern and texture circulates the eyes and gives the image an extended play. Well done!

  • Hi, my name is Roman Tripler. I'm an amateur Photographer from Hennef, Germany and I need a dictionary to write in English. For some years I start documenting the crazy and excessive five days of carnival in Cologne, Germany, at "Weiberfastnacht". These five days move joy and sorrow closest to each other and it's unique and a typical for that town. The tangled lines, the overturned beer and the possible anchor should give us a hint to this circumstances. I used a Leica M9P with a 35mm Cron IV Thank you!

  • This image creates the illusion of space and depth at first, but then slides into a two dimensional abstraction of geometric shape and line because of the perfect symmetry. The clean areas of the image can be seen as simple shapes divided neatly by the cables which are read as lines. It's an interesting image to view and also rendered with harmonious colors.

  • Nicely composed and technically executed, this photo shows a lighter view of the thematic boundary between industry and humanity. The image has visual appeal with the tonal ranges and the compositional elements make full use of the space.

  • Thank you for selecting my photo. The photo was taken at Western District Hong Kong where there was an accident jam that all the trams were stopped. The driver looked for the reason, the model picture on the tram in front made an interested connection. The photo was taken by Sigma DP2 Merrill at Shutter Priority mode ISO 200 1/125s f9.

  • The soft tones and black and white rendering of this image help to stimulate the viewers imagination - is it an Orwellian scene or ??? The uncluttered composition works well with a repeating shape of the screen in the shadows and the lines of the building converging on the screen.

  • Thanks for selecting my photo. It very well could be an Orwellian scene or present day in the city of Manchester, United Kingdom.

  • Take your pick: does this image of the skater juxtaposed against the pillars of society best represent a) questioning authority, b) capriciousness of youth, c) how times change, d) collapse of society, or e) none of the above? Either way a great capture!

  • Different from many of the other entries, this image highlights social condition and the range of the human condition. The image stands on its own technical merit, but we appreciate the subject mater and human element.

  • The dark clouds run across the sky in the same direction as the planes and creates a palpable feeling of foreboding and doom, yet the movement of the viewers eye (and the planes) is halted by the pole. The pole helps make this image work as it return the viewers eye to the bottom of the image, and full circle through the 12, the buildings and then left back across before starting again. Nicely done!

  • Motion blur isn't always desired, but in the case of the shopkeepers and market goers captured in this image, it works well since it helps convey the flutter of activity in this busy market. The use of more open space at the bottom instead of the top of the frame reinforces the idea of movement and activity because viewer will unconsciously allow the objects on top to 'fall' into the open space which is the path.

  • This picture was taken at the busy Ubud markets, Bali, Indonesia. One neat point was being able to shoot down from the upper floor of the surrounding buildings into the market place. Gear used was a Leica Monochrom and a Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar Aspherical II 15mm lens. Regards, Andrew

  • Great idea on the visual play between the ice cream cone and the tower in the background.

  • Paul Borg Olivier, Valletta (MALTA). Leica M9P 35mm F2 Cron ASPH. LR. This photo was shot in August 2014 during a Leica Meet in Paris organised by The Leica Meet Facebook Group. I was inspired by the symbolism as much as the contrast between the ice cream and the Eiffel Tower. From a soft, melting every day snack/dessert to a firm and solid structure towering over the identity of France. The softness and simplicity, coupled with the strength and elegance of the tower attracted my eyes to capture a different perspective of "everyday Paris".
