- It was about 5am when I woke up. Still jet-lagged from the thirteen-hour flight several days earlier, I pulled myself up from the tatami floor of the monastery, grabbed my camera, and went for a walk. As anyone who’s been to Japan will tell you, tourism is a big deal; with floods of visitors constantly laying siege to the iconic tourist sites. Mount Koya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is no different, but at 5am, before the coaches arrive, there’s a magnificent calm. The loudest thing I heard on my walk was the mirror of a Nikon D700 moving up, then down again, as I took a photo of myself and my only company: my shadow. Many thanks to all those who took the time to vote for me, I’m humbled.

- Thanks to everyone who voted! This was a spur of the moment shot, taken in a private house in Devon (UK) just a few miles from my home. I really liked the frame of the huge mirror hanging at the top of the staircase. Taken on my beloved Fuji X-Pro1 with 18mm lens, f7.1, 1/100s.

- Rezvan Haghighi (foroozan) / from Iran,Shiraz. I'm working on my self-portrait collection from two or three years ago. This self-portrait was taken in one of the old places in my city, Shiraz, which I grown up in; and this is my childhood house. The photo has many references, but for me; one of the most important, is about being aware of self-sufficient; it's also about the identity precarious…and i got help from processing to show these. The camera that I used for this one is Canon EOS Kiss X3.

- That's me, on the left ! ;-) My name is Adria Ellis and I am an artist and a photographer. I took this image last March in Varanasi India with my iPhone 5S. It's a pretty straight shot, I lightened the faces just a tad but thats about it. Snapseed is my goto App for fine tuning. I use to have big cameras and gear and things like that but for me Less is more. I spent three weeks in India on a photography pilgrimage with two iPhones. It's hard to have a favorite in India but if I win this contest I would like to spend a month in Varanasi. For me it's the people. This man is a Sadhu, or Baba - he's a holy man. Very few possesions and committed to releasing Karma. He was generous with his time, loved being photographed and offered me his blessing and coconut shavings. When I return I will bring him this picture.

- My name is Nat and I live in "Beautiful" British Columbia, Canada. This shot was taken on my Olympus EM10 on a trip out of bounds on Whistler mountain. My friend and I were on our way to a run called Corona bowl. It was a great day and I am glad I could capture it! I set some fill flash to balance the back lighting and post processed in lightroom.

- Hi everyone, my name is Ed Lim. This photo was taken at Tian Zi Fang in Shanghai and is captioned “iPhone Pose” on my photo site: 500px.com/edlim. It was taken in April 2013 using a Leica M (Typ 240) camera with a 90mm Leica Summicron lens. Subsequent post processing was done using Silver Efex Pro 2 plugin within Photoshop CS6.
