  • 1st Place Well done! Great shot and very different to what we normally see. I love the very low angle of this and the overall feel that it lends to this scene mixed with a very brave and wide crop that really works well. Well done!

  • I shot this photo at Sturgis (South Dakota) Dragway, 08/07/2013, during the WMDRA Sturgis Nationals. The cloud cover, combined with the backlight of the sun and burnout smoke provide the atmosphere for a great shot. I prefer to shoot low angle whenever I can when shooting motorsports. Nikon D300s /Nikon 18-105mm. Thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate the recognition among so many other great shots by very talented shooters.

  • 2nd Place Amazing car and a very well captured image using nothing but available light, the use of mono for this really works so well and I don't think it would have had the same impact in colour to be fair. Love the tones and the post edit work also. Well done!

  • 3rd Place Brilliant capture of this car but most of all I was impressed with the overall effort that has gone into the lighting on this one with some very effective light painting. Well done!

  • Thank you so much for that Award. It's my very first award on here and I feel sooooo honored and happy :) My name is Moritz Erdt, I shoot under the pseudonym Maurice Etoile. Basically I see myself as a portrait photographer but I recently discovered my passion for automotive. Location I created this image close to my hometown, Saarbrücken, in the garden of a friend of our family and owner of the car. It was freezing cold - 3 degree celcius below zero. Camera Model and shooting Thesedays I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III. The camera rests on a tripod for the whole time. I trigger it remotely and shoot straight to an iPad which helps me to control the lighting. All the lighting is "painted" onto the car and the surroundings with a fluorescent tube. Post Processing To get this final image I took about 30 single frames and merged them together in PS CC. It's actually straight forward but quite time consuming.

  • This really stood out of me, its perhaps not technically perfect but in some ways I like that in the fact that for me its strength lays in the 'feeling' that it brings. Great use of the sun and not afraid to shoot straight into it which is great to see. Well Done!

  • I had my D600 with me the day I shot this picture. I was walking my dog and I saw this shot, just as I go to shoot it the battery died. Not wanting to not catch the shot I took it with my iPhone having remembered reading my friend Craig Sterlings blog and him talking about the best camera you have is the one you have with you . I'm sure it could have been much better if my D600 was working but I guess this fits the best camera you have is the one that's with you, and working rule LOL. Camera- iPhone 5 Location- Ocean Grove NJ Post processing- some minor adjustments with iPhoto Paul Seymour

  • This scene really works for me and the slightly elevated angle mixed with the over all composition and the use of b/w really evokes a feeling which is of course part of what great photography is all about. Good post edit work too! Well Done!

  • Thank you for the "mark of excellence", I appreciate it a lot. Massive snowing is good for photos, even though it´s not that pleasant to be outside. This one is shot where I live, in Gustavsberg, Sweden, last winter. Leica M9 with Summicron 35/2.0 Postprocessing LR5 and Silver Efex Pro 2. /Bengt Kallenberg

  • Not a subject that we see a lot of entries for and this is a great capture of the helicopter at dawn. Good use of light and ability to maintain some details in the aircraft side on what could be potentially a difficult exposure and post edit work is simple but effective and not over true top which is good to see. Well Done!

  • Thank you so much for your comments - I'm delighted with this result. The aircraft is the one I'm fortunate enough to fly every day in the highlands of Scotland. I took this early on New Years Day with my Nikon D5100 and 18-55 kit lens, I took a few different exposures and used layers in Photoshop to merge them in order to balance the sky. I'm still very new to Photoshop so am really enjoying learning some new techniques.

  • I was really drawn to this when I first saw it. The mixture of the slow exposure for the sense of speed from the train is great in itself but the added use of a longer exposure to really make use of the stars at night really offers the viewer 2 separate but combined sensations of movement, very good concept Well Done!

  • Thanks for the comment and two "Marks of Excellence" in one competition. I will try to improve this concept. Used my D300 with the Tokina 2,8/11-16mm. It was not easy to combine the different kinds of movement - by the way on the left side you can see a third kind of movement, my bicycle. It's a sandwich picture with ca. 100x30 sec for the stars, edited with starstax software and one single shot for the train. Postprocessed in Photoshop. More of my photography in flickr. • An amazing scene and I really love the colours in this, the cold blue baron land and the warmth off the sun and clouds and the refection of that warmth in the planes vapour trail, really simple but effective shot and good composition Well Done!

  • A refreshing and different view, works really well in b/w and there is just enough sensation of movement and mixed with the slight angle of the rider that movement really works in a subtile way. Well Done!

  • This was a very spontaneous shot. While photographing the autumn coloured vineyards of my area I went to another place with my D300 hanging down my neck. Used the Tokina 2,8/11-16mm @ 11mm, 1/50s at f=22. Postprocessed in Photoshop. More of my photography you can find at flickr. Hans Georg Fischer, Germany

  • Great bike, great capture and great use of the dog tone to add to the scene. I would have really liked to have seen this without the bin in the background and without that it could have very easily been a contender for top position as its a great piece of work. Perhaps given this situation again it would be good to look at a low DOF or shifting position to avoid background clutter that detracts from the overall power of the image. Great work though and I really love this so it had to be included in true top 10 Well Done !

  • Walking out of a mall (Doha, Qatar), I saw this bike at the parking lot and decided to take a quick shot at it. It was taken with a Leica M9-P with 50mm Summillux ASPH, and post processed in LR. Thank you so much for the assessment of the photo and for the Mark of Excellence recognition given to it. Thanks, Adolf.
