A picture with lots of atmosphere and personality, composed to show us both the viewpoint and what he is looking at. Technically close to perfect. We like it!

Made with Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summicron on a journey on a heritage railway trip. I sat at a seat in a compartment where the windows had steamed up hoping this would make a more interesting image. I just needed somebody with an interesting face to come and sit opposite, which is what happened. I noticed the old gentleman had lost the fingers on both hands and with his sad look and threatening branches couldn't help but wonder what he had endured in life. We didn't speak but smiled in acknowledgement of a nice trip, but I dont think he knew I had made a photograph so deep in thought was he.
