  • A lot of layers can be seen in this photograph, an intriguing capture this is indeed. Thoughtfully composed and executed. Is it black and white, or are these the real colours of winter? Congratulations to the winner of this Landscape Photo Competition 2021 No 1.

  • Thank you very much for this award. The picture was taken with my old Nikon D750 in Georgia, at Gergeti Trinity Church, which sits under the impressive Mount Kazbek at the end of the Military Road. Its isolated location on top of a steep mountain surrounded by the vastness of nature has made it a symbol for Georgia. I converted the picture to grayscale in post-processing, to enhance the wonderful pattern of the snow on the bare plateau. Laura Chiesa

  • Reflections have the ability to open up new dimensions in photos. This is a great example of such, seeing something in the water paddle reflection, something special that we would not be able seeing otherwise. Looks like the sun is trying to come out!

  • Looks like a beaver had its go, not long ago. This sight is what gives this photo a deeper meaning. Will the beaver be coming back to continue its mission creating a perfectly formed circle? Great tones of black and white in a jungle of branches and trees.

  • We let our eyes wonder over the rolling hills and above, all the way into a world of clouds. That tree in the distance is what draws our sight to, and that gives this image a nice focal point.

  • The last light of possibly an amazing day. The observer can only imagine, being taken away to this sight when looking at the photograph. It is still, no wind.

  • Wherever there is an ocean, it takes our minds away - makes us travel far and wonder. The pastel colours of water and sky go in harmony, hand in hand. The wave is heading into nowhere land.

  • A lot of lines, horizontal as well as vertical - and some clounds working against the symmetry, as well as tire markings. A well composed image, which acts like a scene from a movie. Paris Texas comes to mind.

  • A road less travelled .. This photo is made for black and white. Only the sky gives away that in reality there is some colour, otherwise we would not know.

  • Photo by Aki Backman was taken in Rothorn, Lenderhaide, Switzerland. The road is dark, for the journey, unusual but works for the particular scene. But I must admit, I spend days to get the tonality correct. Leica Q2 and processed in Lightroom, Silver Efex Pro, and Photoshop. Thank you for the nomination!

  • Dreamy and romantic it seems, how the thin trees bend over with their light green leaves, almost translucent. A misty day it is, the deeply rich dark brown bark compliments the green well.

  • Many thanks to the jury. My name is Fritz Eichmann and I am a photographer from Germany. I took the photo in the Bavarian Forest National Park in Germany. A unique landscape was created there under the motto of nature let nature be.
