  • What a fabulous image. The shallow depth of field and simplified background (and foreground) allow the viewer's attention to immediately land on the kitten with her big eyes and sharp claws. Wonderful capture and expertly handled in post. Nicely done and congratulations. ~ illona

  • Thank you so much, I am so happy about that! My name is Tanja and I'm an animal photographer from Germany. Cats and dogs, but my heart belongs to the (Greek) stray cats. However this cat I met by chance during a location scouting here in Bremen. I used my Nikon D750 and post processing was with Lightroom and Photoshop.

  • This such a bright and airy image, and a welcome splash of color amidst so many black-and-white conversions. The minimal color in all of this stark white warms the photo and allows the viewer's eye to almost immediately lock on the orange face of this feline before exploring the variety of lines and shapes. Nicely done. ~ illona

  • This is a stunning black-on-black image, where the conversion to black-and-white reduces it to the key elements: the cat's intense eye, his brilliant whiskers and the gleam on his nose. A very strong image indeed. Nicely done. ~ illona

  • Thank you for this Mark of Excellence. My name is Greg Tambini and this is my cat Louie, who my roommate found inside a Home Depot in Newark, NJ and brought him home. He was looking out our window staring at a bird on my neighbors roof and I immediately noticed how beautifully the light was hitting his face. I went and grabbed my camera and to my surprise he hadn't moved. The image was shot with a Canon 7D, natural light, ISO 1600, 1/60 at f 5.6. Post processing in Photoshop. Thank you again!

  • What a great capture and a wonderful high-key image. The focus is perfect on this white cat, and the action with its paw blurred due to the slower shutter speed. keeps our focus on the cat's incredibly intense face. Nicely done. ~ illona

  • This image is so many kinds of wonderful ... the expression on this cat, his nose lifted to the breeze to catch scents, the phenomenal bokeh behind in him with all of the sparkly light ... none of that is lost, even when turned to black-and-white. I image this image works just as well in color because it is a wonderful capture. Nicely done. ~ illona

  • What lovely, candid capture of this cafe feline catching some zzz's in the window. Nicely seen and captured, and then managed in post. ~ illona
