  • This is a stunning sunrise scene with vivid colours and thick morning mist draping over the windmill and surrounding countryside. It is a familiar view but you have taken it with this very special atmosphere. Congratulations, you win this round!

  • Thank you, I'm really happy. The picture I took during my holiday in the Netherlands early in the morning at Zaanse Schans, this moment was really magical, the haze associated with the rising sun was wonderful. I used a Sony A7RM2 with a Sigma MC-11 and a Canon 24-105mm f4L USM lens for the photo.

  • Lovely lightshafts and a nighttime exposure make this shot of the antelope canyon really stand out from the ordinary. Well done.

  • In this completely dark corner of Upper Antelope slot canyon, I softly light painted strategic areas of the canyon with small red LED lights. The red color of the LEDs forced the camera’s color balance to expose the sky with a vivid blue. Along with long 15 second exposures and light painting, an image of wonderful perspective and soulful adventure emerges - complete with beaming moonlight invading the darkness of the subterranean sandstone world. Even though I was focused on tweaking the camera's settings and position, I was warned to watch my standing area and the canyon walls for huge Brown Recluse spiders (as one ran under my tripod). Now this sounds like a place in hell for most people, but I couldn't be more grateful for the night hikes experience into Antelope Canyon.

  • A nice square format for this very peaceful waterside portrait of these poplar trees. You have caught their lovely individual shapes but also their combined appeal. Beautiful minimal composition, nice work.

  • This is well spotted, the texture and lines are remarkable. Clever shot, making so much of so little.

  • I love the isolating effect of the long lens here, leaving us with the bare minimum and an image where tones and texture surpass the subject matter. Beautiful work.

  • Here is a graphic composition which beautifully sets off that undulating line of trees. It is a great subject and much more difficult to manage than one might believe. It is an appealing image for its simplicity and contrast. Nice.

  • Well it is a scene we all know so well from so many photographs. The black beach and famous icelandic sea stacks at Vik, in black and white… But you have captured the scene so well with a nice contrast in the sky and the sea and pleasing movement in the water.

  • Here is a lovely composition of the forest floor covered in flowering wild garlic. It is a difficult shot to pull off with the sun directly shining in your lens, the resulting flare has let you down a little preventing your shot getting a top spot.

  • Thank you Duncan for granting me another mark of excellence. This shot was taken at the edge of the Black Forest near the city of Karlsruhe. I used a Canon 5Dsr and a Zeiss 21mm 2.8 Distagon on my Feisol tripod and a Uniqball head. Sad but true I have to admit, I overlooked the flare at the lower edge in postprocessing.

  • Striking contrast makes this waterfall pop out of the dark. You have caught the atmosphere very well, we really feel the damp, dark conditions of this overcast and wet day.

  • Hi, my name is Prajnyan Goswami. I am a 27 year old from Assam, North-east India. This photograph is of the Nohkalikai falls in Meghalaya - one of the tallest plunge falls in India. Captured this with a Sony DSC HX10V point and shoot camera during my early days of photography and processed in Adobe Photoshop CS6 years later. I am sincerely grateful to have received the mark of excellence, my second so far on this platform. My best regards!

  • Although this composition may at first seem cluttered with overlapping subject matter, it is exactly that which creates the impression of peeping over the rocks to see the waves. The rock formation is striking, the crashing wave completes the image.
