  • This is a fabulous image. With his intense gaze partially concealed by the old log/tree, this collie's eyes draw us into this intimate closeup. The varying textures from the bright eye, to the collie's fur, the rough bark to the soft sun flare at the top, all work to make this a rich yet simple image. Nicely set up, captured and managed in post. ~ illona

  • Thank you so much for the award. I feel very honored and very happy about it. The picture shows my very curious dog Sunny. She is a nine-year-old Border Collie crossbreed from Animal Welfare. She has lived with us for eight years. I took the photo last December in our neighbourhood. My Canon 5D Mark IV was used for this. The lens was the Tamron 45mm/1.8. Best regards Sandra

  • This is remarkable image and an instant fave. The framing of the wet collie by the fabulously sculpted rocks is perfection, and the heavy sky adds weight and texture to the overall image. I struggle a little personally with the distant horizon and the water seen behind the collie's legs, and wonder if the image would be stronger still if the angle had been just a little lower so that the distant water wasn't visible ... although I do appreciate your desire to show reference. Nicely staged, captured, and managed in post. ~ illona

  • This is a tremendous image! The centered framing works perfectly with the centered-stare of this border collie ... the depth of field created with the foreground foliage draws us in to the collie's eyes, and we can barely move from that intensity. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • This is a simple yet compelling image. The centered framing works for this straight stare of this wet dog. The subtle yet rich tones give us a sense of the wet, heavy day, and the details in the wet dog's fur and eyes, draw the viewer's eye in almost immediately. Nicely done! ~ illona

  • This is a captivating image in both its dark tones and intriguing setting and angle. The reflected clouds in the water work as a creative backdrop for this dog's extremely fixed attention and alert ears. While I personally find the soft tones compelling, I do feel that the image might benefit from some cleaner whites, especially in the collie, to allow him/her to pop a bit more. Lovely capture and vision. ~ illona

  • This is a fabulous capture that has been beautifully managed in post. The lab's direct gaze amidst the shallow depth of field draws the viewer in, while the vegetation allows the viewer's eye to wander a little before coming back to this wonderful dog. Nicely done. ~ illona
