  • Congratulations to the winner for this contests winning image! The horn players horn in gestalt pattern with the city line in background ties both elements of a city together nicely. Well done!

  • Thanks for selecting this picture as the winner! My name is Willem Kuijpers, living in the Netherlands. I made the photo at the Malecon in Havana, Cuba. The guy was rehearsing/relaxing at the seaside, something many cubans do there (when the sea is not too wild)....

  • Wonderful and fun, this image is part summer vacation postcard and part frosted cake with sprinkles. Beautiful!

  • Excellent idea and composition here in this image! Fantastic placement of the person who interrupts the sequence of images rising in a triangle shape to the right, and kind of neat that their arms make another triangle which points in the opposite direction to the tower on left. The soft black and white rendering of the image helps the perception that the person is the same size as the buildings.

  • The lines of the clouds and hills and patterns of mist and trees so engage the eye (in a good way) that the castle is nearly overlooked! Beautiful image!

  • Lovely light in this image – almost painterly in that it appears to be coming from different directions to light up each object. Composition is well laid out and the face-off between the two sides – nature and factory - adds another layer of interest.

  • This is a fun image to look at. Placement of the bridge in the coming up from the center and ending in the clouds that spread away aids the imagination. Could the cars be jumping off like a long distance ski jumper?

  • The angle of view which shows the curving path of the river has the drawn feel of an old- world map. Light dabbling through the clouds adds further intrigue. The visual line made from the white roofed building (lower right side) over the bridge to the lit patch of buildings plays well with the winding river and line of clouds in the composition.

  • This portal view image is much better composed and balanced than most of its kind. All the visual elements work well together both in terms of shape and position and also in color harmony. Superb technically. Very well done!

  • The idea to include the woman in the image was good since it sends the viewers eye in the direction of the main compositional vectors. The composition works well since she is out of focus and fades into shadow and provides more of a start and end for the eye rather than being a center of attention. The image is well executed technically. Nice job!

  • Thank you very much! I am very happy for receiving the Award. The photo was taken with a Panasonic LUMIX GF1 / 20mm Pancake in Rome, May 2010. It was edited in Lightroom. What you can see here is the Forum Romanum with the views of the Colosseum. The view was astonishing by seeing so many different architectures lying in front. It was a beautiful sunny day.
